OFFER HELP: Currently an L5 PM at Amazon making $80k (I came in as L4 hourly and we all know how tiny the bumps are). Just got an offer from Facebook (Meta) for a program manager role, base is 125k. Can someone help me negotiate when I’m already so blown away by and grateful for this offer? I know I’m supposed to, but given everything that’s going on in the world right now, I know I am IMMENSELY privileged already and it feels so greedy to ask for anything else.
Any mechanical engineers here?

Spotify in a hiring freeze?
I was in the final rounds for a job and the recruiter reached out saying it was paused and hiring is slowing down. Can anyone at Spotify speak to what’s going on there? Is this expected to last for a while? I was really excited about the role and felt like it was mine to lose.
Thanks 🙏

If anyone is hiring or knows team is hiring a Data/Business Analyst role I'd love to connect with you. The business functions I'm looking to add value to are data governance, finance, and customer success ops. I have over 3 years of experience and I recently wrapped up my tenure at AstraZeneca.

Thanks for any assistance or advice.

OP, the only way I’d take this offer is if it was remote and you get to stay in Texas.
I just did nerwallet’s COL calculator for austin to SF- they said 175k on austin is equivalent to 345k SF.
So no on money alone I wouldn’t do it. Plenty of other factors though
My MSFT stock is up 4x in that period so yes it happens. What I “plan” for is 10% equity growth every year and hope I’m pleasantly surprised.
To me, comp would be the third biggest factor. #1. Do I think I’d like the new job better than the other. #2 would I rather live in the bay area or texas. Those two would drive my decision.
I'd highly recommend staying in Texas. San Francisco is going to eat up so much of that in living expenses alone.
How much has the stock appreciate this year? How much is their area expected to grow.
Overall sounds like you are going to take a huge hit financially
Depending on your location in TX... Anywhere other than Austin is likely to be significantly lower cost of living in so many ways vs the Bay Area. People are leaving the bay, not running toward it. The belief that SF/CA is advantageous because of tech career opportunity just doesn't hold water any longer relative to the massive hit in living expenses. Your choice, but do the actual research, beyond any qualitative statements here, before making a decision.
On the surface, I agree, you're downgrading with that offer. There may be other reasons to take the opportunity - the company, the field, you've always wanted to experience CA - but immediate financial gain is not one of them.
Based on what you said, absolutely not! I don’t know your financial situation, but the cost of living in the Bay Area vs Texas is night and day. Personally, I don’t think it’s worth it.
Is the 150k stock over 4 years? living in the Bay Area is very expensive (I’m also originally from Texas), but there are arguably more tech career opportunities here.
That’s right
Have you tried to negotiate yet or first offer?
Good luck with your decision! It’s a hard one but don’t forget about you as well. Some people change careers or jobs for their passion, purpose and mental health. I did! Now have left SF but loved the 5 years I got to spend there.
More opportunities including the opportunity to get out of Texas. Best would be if you negotiated to work from home for a year or so with just a few visits. Then when those RSU start vesting you can look at moving into a place in the Bay area. Traffic used to be a big deal, but I'm not sure everyone's going to be going in 8/5 every week in the near future. It may be an advantageous time to move due to covid and much more working from home. You could live in Livermore or Pleasanton, and Bart in those few days they want to see your face in the office
Unless the actual office is in SF, just stay outside of SF, plenty of spots outside of SF that are cheaper and less congested. Just BART, Caltrain, Uber or drive in
