I’d agree with a few points from P1. However...I’ve been here 6+yrs and what I’ve gathered is that the work is dull which is one cause of attrition (also low comp) and attributes to some semblance of work life balance. Ppl don’t go to big 4 or equivalent because the skill sets just don’t really compare. Leaders can come off friendly, but transparency? That’s a stretch. If you don’t get into the “club”, your career potential is limited. I’ve seen too often people’s preferences and realities of the work sold to have harsh outputs aka ppl on SOX jobs for a long time. Like years. But, if that all sounds fun to you.....make the jump.
I can see this perspective too. Honestly, I'm definitely part of "the club" so I probably see Protiviti in a better light than others
Overall has a family type of feel (can be good or bad). Leaders are usually really transparent and friendly. Coworkers tend to be friends with each other outside of work (can cause some intense drama though). Generally of the opinion that we'd never go to Big 4 because we maintain pretty good work-life balance for a consulting firm. Management tries really hard (sometimes too hard) to retain people and make them happy. People typically like their coworkers more than they hate the type of work we do (a lot of SOX) so they tend to stay because of that. Hard to give you more specifics without knowing which office.
They’re* and promotions are fair. You can get senior in 2 years or less sometimes. I’ve seen someone who worked her ass off get senior manager after only a year and half of being manager because she DESERVED it. Good projects are given to good workers. Salary adjustments can come twice a year and are also fair - based on your hours charged to the client, how well you engage with your teams, and your evaluations from management.
*i come from a fairly small office in Pro*
I’m interviewing for senior manager in their tech practice. Coming from a big4. How is travel? Typical mom-thu, stay in Marriotts, per diem/actuals?
They may not meet your pay expectations at SMR, so aim high and hope they’ll meet you where you are ok with. Travel varies with the office. Frequency and the work week expectations. I know many who do Sun in, fri out. Just depends. Same with expenses. Just depends on the project.
@EY1, travel % varies but mostly negotiable. Typically mon-thurs, per diem and whatever hotel with reasonable price
The work and clients are not that impressive. After working at a couple of other firms it’s easy to see why they are considered lower tier.
