Yes
Unless you really think they did it on purpose it's a disproportionate response that will make you look bad.
Lol yes. One person I know responded and increased the size of his correctly spelled name in his signature block to 30pt font
Yes. Extremely.
If it’s a recurring issue, email them individually to remind them how your name is spelled.
Agreed. Most people don’t realize they’re doing it and are mortified when you point it out to them.

Everyone misspells my name because it’s very close to a common first name. I always assume it’s auto correct and I don’t want people to avoid writing to me because they’re afraid they misspelled my name. If people get it right 60% of the time and occasionally apologize for getting it wrong, I don’t really care. If someone repeatedly gets it wrong, and never seems to notice, particularly a junior, I definitely note that they are bad at details, or potentially a bit of a jerk
As someone whose name is frequently misspelled, I do notice is every time and it does irk me. It’s not hard to copy my name from my sig block and paste it if you’re dyslexic as someone above argued. For those of you saying get over it or it’s not a big deal, you’ve never had your name misspelled! I’m certain there’s a Michael and or a Robert commenting here - you’d be ok with someone spelling your name (consistently) as Micheal or Bobert? No. Bet you would say “da fuq is wrong with this idiot?”
Hmm no A2, you’re not understanding my point. I never said someone who is dyslexic is an idiot. However sorry I don’t know what conditions any of my email senders are going thru at any given time of their lives so when I say “idiot” I’m actually generalizing amongst all email senders, not just those who might happen to have dyslexia. If you’re saying that I’m a bad person bc I called someone else an idiot for the sheer fun of it, well then dammit I’m a bad bad man.

Wow these responses are intense based on a potentially innocuous spelling mistake.
My best friend since childhood consistently misspelled my name for 20+ years. She was later diagnosed with dyslexia, which explained her inability to spell my name properly (e.g., if my name was Daniel, she spelled it Daneil). Friend is smart and professionally successful - so dyslexia didn’t hold her back career wise.
My point is you don’t know what people’s struggles are, so (a) don’t assume a misspelling is intentional, and (b) even if intentional (which is batshit), misspelling their name in response is petty, and only reflects poorly on you.

A3, it’s not a “counterpoint” because i’m not suggesting names aren’t an important part of our identity, and I’m not suggesting people shouldn’t take the extra second to check if they spell names correctly. I’m simply talking about dealing with the aftermath of someone not having taken that second to check, and having spelled incorrectly.

What if someone abbreviates your name and they have an abbreviated option for their name too? E.G. I go by Samuel and they go by Benjamin, halfway through the thread they call me Sam, can I respond with Ben?

I just do it because I think it’s funny, no hostility intended
Coach
They don’t care and it just reveals how triggered you are.
A similar thing happens to me except I repeatedly get addressed by name last name. It’s not also a first name, so really no clue where it comes from, but it mostly just makes me laugh. I’ll just reply and be sure to sign off “thanks, [first name]” even if I hadn’t been to that point, to subtly flag it for them.
No issue, just funny. And worth correcting IMO if it happens repeatedly from the same person

Depends. Are you a POC? Then anything goes!!

Who cares!
