Meeting people is a great thing to do when first starting. I like to meet with more direct coworkers, too, and get an idea of what is expected and how things normally operate.

Yea I definitely try to do this as well! It's always good to now what's being expected and get a sense of how each individual on your team operates so you can adapt to those individual working styles
Observe, ask around about who is good to talk to, get face time with.
Every dept/group has the “stars”, divas and leadership favorites.
I know it’s kinda stomach-turning, but getting on these people’s good side helps. Wish meritocracy ruled the professional world, but it doesn’t—its relationships and ego-stroking.
Often fake, forced, two-faced, ass-kissing relationships are what give you the better opportunities and greater security. And those connections feed promotions and better pay raises.
Try to make it work for you.

This is so true. I've learned that you need to really understand how people operate so you know how to approach conversations and situations to make work easier for you and so that it can also help you professionally. I also wish that it was more meritocracy based because I hate playing that game sometimes but it is what it is
In general, I do what you do, well also looking up competency, models, and setting up my personal performance tracker so that when mid year and your end come around, I’m not scrambling to try and remember in detail out all of my contributions. Depending on your role, scope, if you’re overseeing any type of content/program management, I like to go in and do my own SWOT analysis and then ask for the team swat analysis and see where there might be gaps in areas of opportunity and also strength to lean into and get historical context. Congrats on the new role!

ooh yes! I've been trying similar in terms of creating my own personal performance trackers. I'll try to monitor what tasks I'm doing on a week to week, month to month, and full year basis so that I can easily call back on things when I want to bring up conversations about promotions and work. I'll also keep track of any out of scope work that I'm doing as that's important to bring up too
