Additional Posts in Salary Negotiations
Im not searching for a new job but an acquaintance reached out about a similar role at a similar energy company.Turns out 2 ppl threw my name in the hat. I looked into it and the position was posted 2 weeks ago.Their director wants to meet.I bet pay is one of the first things to be discussed so that no one’s time is wasted.Am I crazy for not wanting to entertain it for less than 20-25% base pay increase? Is it selfish to ask for more? I’m sure most salary conversations end in negotiation anyways?

Smaller in this market. In normal times, you’d always overestimate and then come down to a number. Now I don’t even know if I’d bother to counter at all if I really needed the job.
Go big or go home.
How strongly I negotiate depends are where the offer and my expectations fall within the range for that role, and more importantly, how bad do I want or need the job. It's an employer's market big time right now, and you likely not the only qualified candidate that they are looking at. Going too big could absolutely back fire. Make sure your counter is well within the realistic range for the position in the current market.
Recently switched jobs. I was happy with the offer but asked for more just because it’s part of the dance in my industry. They wouldn’t increase my salary, but I was able to get an increased signing bonus and stock options. If you can’t get more money, you can maybe get other things like more PTO. Be flexible.
I am way more cautious now than I would have been a few years ago. I chose not to negotiate at all, because the offer was reasonable and I didn't want to risk it being rescinded.
