When to ask about converting to full time (from contractor/sub)? If it’s a multi year contract, when would be the earliest appropriate time to ask about a possible conversion?

convo for me started at 6 months. they told me it’d happen within a year if i performed well ahead of time though

like

6 months into the contract I asked about the conversation possibilities. I have a great group lead and she pushed it up the chain to make my contract spot a staff position. I did lose money but I gained more in benefits and time off since the contract did not include PTO, regular or sick.

Out of curiosity how much lower was the pay?

You can ask after 1 year, but I'll be honest, a lot of these "contract to hire" words are just that - words. They'll let you hang on for years until you decide to pursue fulltime elsewhere and then all of a sudden some opening will come up

like

I would say they should have a solid understanding if they want you full time after the 6-12month mark. If you're already at a year or somewhere near, I'd mention it.

Ah this is interesting to think of… I’ve been contracting at my place for 17 months now. May be a good time to check what their pay is and if it would be worth it for FTE!

6-12

I would say the best time to ask is toward the end of the contract, but you should start asking about full-time positions six months before the contract is over.

I appreciate all the great insights!

Curious what the base and commission structure is for inside sales and associate director of sales in biotech (also anyone else who wants to share pls put industry). Paid hourly or salary? At the biotech company I work at avg inside sales is $62,632 with a $3500 per quarter cap. Commission structure is % based on sales quota reached vs capped (not a direct % of sales). I’m underpaid at $53000 with $3500 cap per quarter.

Any books/self help materials for someone who is constantly worrying (and waste a lot of unnecessary time)? E.g. No matter if i pass or fail an interview, there is always something to worry about. The worrying/anxiety multiplies when I proceeded further in the interview stages. Now that I signed the offer and is pending background checks, my anxiety is off the roof as it itches closer to my starting date.

I am a Product Owner with 4+ YOE. I have been in my current role for 4 months and have continuously found that this role and company are not the right fit for me. Looking back on everything they said during the interview process it turns out that the culture, product and role are not aligning with anything we discussed. They have added on responsibilities and I have continuously expressed to my direct manager how I feel.
