When you have to give a presentation to non-engineering, how do you ensure you explain the topic well.

Simplify, simplify, simplify. Focus on your audience and send the message to them. For example, how you explain things to an accountant would be very different than what you would tell a class of 8th graders. If it's a bigger presentation, do a "dry run" on friends or family that are in a similar role as your audience to get honest feedback for improvements.

It's always good to remember that with any type of communication what really matters is what happens in the other person's mind. That's the key to good writing really, keeping it simple and letting the reader fill it in (think Hemingway, as a good example). So in a presentation it's important to give the audience what they need to understand whatever it is you're trying to get across. Dazzling them with tech talk will backfire. But clear explanations and examples will usually deliver.

I like to make analogies, compare to other things that make sense. Relating to the audience as much as I can. Even giving presentations to those in engineering can be tricky depending on the specifics. Good rule of thumb to just make sure you keep them engaged and understand what the point of the whole thing is.

Anyone feel frustrated at times with the super aggressive sales personalities we deal with? My AE is always pushing on every ask no matter how minuscule it is. My vp is super anal about anything we do. I understand these guys pull in huge commissions and bonuses that’s why they are so motivated. However what I personally feel is they just nag us until we do the job according to their spec. Just venting……anyone else feel the same?

Hi everybody! 😊
I've been working as a Junior Analog Design Engineer for a year and half.
I received a proposal for a Senior Analog Designer role from Bosch in the same city where I am currently working.
Should I wait and build up a few more years of experience before accepting a Senior role or should I jump in and work to fill the gap?
Next year, there will be an important deadline for the project I'm working on and my resignation could be critical for the team, how would you deal with it?
