Sorry, mate, I understand the frustration. Try attending tech events and connecting with startups that could benefit from your expertise. You might also find opportunities with companies on platforms more focused on software and design, like Peerlist. The main thing is to keep looking and hope for a pinch of luck.
You may not want to hear this, but the answer is your network and your reputation. Does everyone in your network know you are available, and what types of problems you can help them solve? Are you known as being really good at what you do, especially a specific niche? Have you adopted the mindset that you’re a business and need to market yourself as such? Freelance is the art of remaining top of mind. It’s definitely not for everyone, and if you don’t have the network yet it may be beneficial to look full time and build it up over a few years first.
I am doing freelance because I can’t find a full time job lol. But I get your point, I don’t have a huge network unfortunately
Yes clients always have designers, but often the work requieres for more. So staying in those clients radar so when they have works load that requires a freelancer you’re the one to call.
But yes of course you need to build out your network. I get a ton of art work from my old copy lead from years ago.
