Which do you consider first when looking for a change: an internal position change or an external opportunity? I usually start with an internal one these days but I really like my current workplace.

I’m thinking about making a change to program management, 75% of what I do is just technical PM work these days anyway I might as well get paid for it

like

This just totally depends on why I'm looking for a change. If I'm just sick of the role, then sure I'll look internally. But most of the time I'm looking to leave because of company culture and wanting a good salary jump. So I'm more likely to look externally.

Makes total sense and that’s pretty much how I do it too

Internal seems easiest, so long as you like where you are

Yeah definitely easier to move internally!

Hello all! I am looking for a job in finance/investments, but I’m having trouble attracting attention from employers. I have a finance degree from UGA, but all of my experience (3.5 years) is in sales (tech and real estate), so no relevant internships unfortunately. Any advice on how to market myself better and where I should be looking would be greatly appreciated!

I am fairly green in academia (< 1 year) and I want to shift to an area of research which I always wanted to do but never could as a Ph.D. student (because of conflict of interest).
The issue I am facing is that due to lack of my documented research experience in this field (read, lack of papers) I am finding it very hard to land any grant and reviewers keep saying "The PI hasn't demonstrated any experience in said research" blah blah.
Any advice on how to overcome this?

I understand the importance of citations. It's a wonderful way to show how your work builds on previous research. But sometimes I just want to write an article that says "I think this" without having to cite everyone who ever said that before me.
