Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.
Anyone knows MBB manager salaries in Toronto?

Ever seen Titanic? IBM is a sinking ship 🛳
As someone who works at Uber go to IBM. Uber notoriously pays lower than most tech companies and there’s a lot less opportunities for career growth. If I had a choice I would choose IBM.
sounds like your role will be in C&CS. Working on IBM software is like taking a step back in time. The biggest complaint I hear from colleagues in that division is skills degradation.
As an ex IBMer: go to Uber, they actually have products that customers use. IBM is a B2B company and the AI innovations are driven by demand - so never cutting edge.
IBM delivery PM is one if the worst roles to have because you are rarely fully billing yet you have a lot of work. It’s just a very ungrateful position to be in unless you know the account team well and they have lots of opportunities to grow the project.
Transition was great, gave back my laptop and didn’t regret it for a second. I was/am in a technical role at both companies. That being said, if your goal is to transition from non-tech to tech, IBM is still a great company. Microsoft is full of ex IBMers. You also seem to have an offer that is in a niche team which could be much cooler than the usual IBM consulting PM role.
You should align your move to your future goals. Maybe IBM is the better pick than Uber. But in my super biased opinion I would be surprised if it was.
Is this a joke? Why on earth would you ever consider going to IBM over Uber.
Management sucks and the company is directionless, losing work constantly, rates are so low they’re unsustainable, and industry is lapping IBM. Pay packs suck, pay raises or bonuses nonexistent. Just about the only thing that was still good is visa sponsorship for cross border working which is pretty open and available to employees.
If the pay is truly the same, go with Uber. The above IBM employees are a pretty good indicator lol
But Uber is notorious for paying less for the same roles at other companies. They like to bank on their celebrity + cool perks to get by on less pay
@Uber2, do you have any advice on negotiating an offer from Uber? Did you have to send them a competing offer to negotiate?
Do you have an offer from Uber for their Program Manager role? Would love to connect as I’m also considering offers
Yes I am, would love to connect!
