Update: I have an interview Tuesday I’m very excited for. Any tips are welcome
Sorry to hear that — how far along are you in your career? And have you been applying to only specific offices? Secondhand, I’ve heard a lot of the hiring is in the southeast right now.
Right, I think they’re hiring a lot of LLMs right out of school right now. As someone else noted in this thread, apply to different divisions and broaden your search. Unless you are tied to Boston, you might have to move around to go IRS Counsel.
What’s your experience?
Thanks I’ll do that. I had only done sbse at this point but I’ll try the others. I was also considering treasury but I really don’t see myself traveling to DC all the time.

Does anyone know the salary comp for this type of position ?
Only senior counsel, special trial attorneys, and managers get GS-15 which require an application and interview, all other attorneys start at GS11 step 8 fresh out of law school (no llm) and then get grade increases until GS 14. Then it’s just step increases until you max out. At least this is how it was when I was there not long ago.
