Hi all,
I’m looking to relocate to Seattle. Does anyone know if any of the Big 4 are still recruiting campus hires to start in Summer/Fall 2023? I’m open to either Audit or Tax, but I have internship experience in Tax.
I applied and received an offer at a Big 4 in San Francisco (campus hire), but I’ve decided Seattle is the better fit for me as it will be closer to my hometown and family in Vancouver.

Either the company has no intention of hiring anyone, they will just post (ghost) job opening just to show their current staff that they are trying to find someone or they are trying to find their unicorn candidate to fill whatever role they are wanting to fill.
Employers post "ghost jobs"—listings for roles that are not actively hiring—to build talent pipelines, gauge market salary rates, or signal company growth to investors and employees. These positions may also be posted to fulfill compliance requirements or act as a "backup" to pacify over-worked staff, while at least one in five US postings is never filled.
Key Reasons Employers Post Ghost Jobs:
Pipeline Building & Future-Proofing: Collecting resumes for future openings allows companies to hire quickly when a real role opens.
Market Research: Employers use these ads to gauge candidate interest, salary expectations, and to see what skills are available in the market.
Signaling Growth: A company might post jobs to falsely suggest expansion to investors or competitors, signaling that they are doing well.
Internal Manipulation: Faking job openings can motivate existing employees to work harder by implying they are replaceable, or falsely reassure staff that help is coming.
HR Compliance & Quotas: Some companies are required to post jobs to show they are looking externally, even if they plan to hire internally or have already selected someone.
Passive Recruitment: Maintaining a list of "always open" positions to identify exceptional talent without an immediate vacancy.
How to Spot a Ghost Job:
The job is continuously open or repeatedly posted.
The description is vague, lacks detail, or has a catch-all title.
The role remains listed months after the initial application, as reported in.
