Welcome to EY! First meetings should focus on relationship building so don’t worry too much about going in with too many questions.
First session should be about setting expectations about the counselling relationship (roles and responsibilities of counsellor and counselee), discussing how they can support you best such as meeting frequency, your areas of interest, and so on. You can also have a look at your rank expectations and KPIs and ask any questions about how the LEAD feedback cycles work if you’re still not sure after looking at the intranet page. There’s also mandatory training required for each rank etc.
General advice though would be to schedule in fortnightly (or weekly, depending on how much hand-holding you need) counselling catch-up calls with your manager so that you can regularly check in about how you are going.
You can also take initiative by writing an agenda for future counselling meetings where you want to discuss certain topics so you can make it more structured. For example: 1. Advice for my current project 2. Discuss feedback providers 3. Get advice on extracurricular activities etc
I would also advise in your first few months to send weekly summary updates to your counsellor on what you got up to that week, especially if you’re on the bench or got roped into help random people. It will boost your visibility and help your counsellor communicate the value you’re adding to the team and support the probation review.
Thank you so much for the warm message, EYP! 🥳
