Why do employers care so much about resume gaps? It feels so nosy when interviewers ask you about this. A gap could be due to personal reasons or this brutal job market. Do they really need to know the fine details of our time off?

I’m a new associate to a T&E group, partner goes away on vacation and leaves me with a 706 to review and sign. The family is very wealthy. Decedent married for 60 years. Partner says it’s “just a DSUE election, decedent was ill for years, no assets.” Provides no records. Not even an admission the decedent owned a toothbrush. So I looked up the decedent’s home - it’s a joint asset. Partner was “surprised”, and still insists “no other assets”. I found file references to art and antiques.

Anyone ever asked for a sign on bonus in the form of vacation days - so you don’t have to wait like 6 months in order to take 2weeks? Or ask for reduced pay at first to accelerate the accrual?

Recent lateral junior associate in brand new practice where I'm the only associate. I'm probably going to bill 1,500 hours max this year due to being very slow and taking time off for a delayed honeymoon which I disclosed during my interview process. I have been told my work product is good, I don't turn anything down, I participate in non-billable work, I'm responsive and I always let people know I'm available to help. Best place for holiday office parties?

We are seeing more pushback from employees on working 40 hours. We offer flexibility (wfh), 11 holidays and another 3 wks PTO. Seems like a good gig, I think, at 40-45 hrs. Anyone seeing this too?

For all you retail people...are you experiencing a very slow holiday season? I am a retail manager and I feel like this season has been freakishly slow. I thought we would at least match last year's number or be up a little bit but we are trending down. I talked to employees of other stores in the mall and they are saying the same thing. Is anyone else experiencing this in their market?

If you do billable work on a given PTO/vacation day, do you still count that day as vacation? Or do you get that vacation day "back"? Or do you only get the part that you billed "back"? (Or some other option.)

Tough time getting past final step: I’ve been trying to make a career shift for 10 months now and continue to get rejected at the last step. Im confident in the value I can provide and do well at presenting it.
