I’ve never done it myself but honestly I get it. Everyone knows me to be super bubbly and happy, and have no clue there’s a completely different side of me because of mental health issues. I guess posting those things present all the aspects of being human, not just the glossy social media side and for other people who struggle it’s good to know we’re not alone in what we feel.
I do understand why people say it’s just for attention. But honestly I appreciate people who are brave enough to show the less picture perfect sides of themselves

Attention.

Mentally unstable. Seeking attention.
Here is a hint- no one cares and no one is paying attention.

The problem is that so many people are paying attention. These kinds of posts get views, which is why people do them. My take: ignore at all cost.

You don’t know what it’s like to be me.

The OG crying on social media.
I think they’re all mentally unstable in a way. That and people posting themselves with people who are bedridden or badly ill makes me really uncomfortable.

To try to convince the rest of us that they're humans too.

Same reason why you would cry in front of your loved ones, or even sometimes strangers . Any kind of outburst helps. And humans are designed to find comfort in sharing happiness, grief etc.
People vent on this app all the time. It’s not really that different. Some may do it for likes or whatever social media currency exists.

So now social media friends are on the same level as loved ones?? Lol I think not. People have hundreds of random followers on instagram, many of whom they don’t know very well and don’t have a personal relationship with. Crying on instagram live is not the same at all as expressing your sadness and feelings to a loved one. Crying in front of loved ones and seeking their advice and comfort is personal and intimate, unlike social media. People post on social media to create how they are perceived by society. Thus, crying on social media is super cringy and done just to get attention.

Mainly bc I’m extremely mentally ill. The other times is to be dramatic about something funny lol
Theatrics and drama. Trying to be “relatable”

Yea I find it odd too. Like something very tragic and personal happened me so let me just post on social media where a bunch of people I’m not close to can see it. It looks like an attention seeking tactic.
And other posts that don’t sit well with me are people posting the several thousand dollar designer clothes and bags that either their SO bought for them or they bought for themselves. Just to show people they have nice things. Another attention seeking tactic. This kind of behavior is so tacky to me. Like, live your life for you and your happiness. Don’t live to post for strangers to give you validation.

Agreed. It’s like dumb things I did in high school for attention. Grown adults should know better?
Idk, but it’s cringey at best. Maybe they don’t have anyone to talk too, want to get attention about what happens to them, seeking help about a matter, etc..

Was it legit crying or the crying filter?
Rising Star
The crying filter is hilarious

Is it a generational thing? Seems very Gen-Z specific but could be wrong! I don’t get it either… When I’m going through it, the last thing I think about is documenting it on social media wtf.
An attempt to solicit attention.
