Why does taking PTO feel like committing a crime? I finally took a real vacation and turned off Slack, ignored emails, didn’t even bring my laptop. And yet, the whole week I had this low-key guilt buzzing in the back of my head. I know I’ve earned the time, and our company says they support time off, but in practice, there’s this unspoken badge of honor for being constantly available. Do any of you actually take PTO guilt-free?

I love my job in special education, the job may bring quite a bit of stress and exhaustion but nothing compares to the stress of the related service team. OT, PT, speech, BCBA, social worker, etc etc is really what’s killing me this year. It is 23 days into the school year and the team members all make different plans and as a result, nothing is being accomplished. And if paraprofessionals follow ie what OT says but not PT, it cause so much unnecessary conflict!
