Religion does not belong in public school. I truly do not understand how certain political leaders think is okay to focus on one religious tradition, i.e. Christianity, to the exclusion of others. If people desire religious education for their children, they should enroll in a religious school.
This 100% and I am saying that as someone currently paying for private Catholic High School.
I am really, really uncomfortable with state sponsored religion.
No. If you want your children to have a religious based education, send them to a religious school or homeschool them.
Pro
Sadly teaching Ethics. Empathy, acceptance of others who are different, and the "Golden rule" evaporated somewhere along the way.
That said, 10 commandments have no place in the curriculum of a public school unless perhaps in a highschool level Religions of Man course where they are also teaching the basic tenements of all major religious.
But neither should kids be made to feel that any discussion of their faith (of any kind) or lack thereof is forbidden. People learn acceptance of different points of views by being exposed to them.
If you want religious teaching there are plenty of free options. Virtually every church in the area has Sunday School and bible study options.
