I've frozen embryos with donor sperm. Friends and fam totally supportive. Friend helped me screen through potential donor profiles.
I went in with the mindset not to get overwhelmed with choice. I screened primarily on genetics, then considered things like education, race, physical attributes.
I haven't chosen to do transfer yet but will probably pull the trigger shortly after 40 YO.
Great info... Thanks for sharing
I chose a donor based on looks similar to mine, education, CMV negative because I am, and then made sure through genetic testing.
My family is mostly supportive. All my friends are. It’s definitely interesting as I’ve had some weird experiences with medical professionals but I know I made the right choice. I don’t want to settle for someone who isn’t right for me. Feel free to dm if you want to chat.
I just found out at 9 weeks pregnant there was no longer a heart beat which is devastating but will go another round when I recover mentally and physically
Sorry for your loss 😔 I know that can be devastating
One of my former coworkers did that. She had two children and used the same donor for both. I thought it was awesome. Every one she was amazing and really respected her decision. I’m sure there were plenty of really though times but she went for number, it sure looked like she was confident in her decision.
Selecting was a fairly straightforward process. I am CMV negative so screened out all positive donors. Then I screened for education. Then for height (I’m relatively short and have two shorter parents so I was hoping to offset my genetics). Then I just read their profiles and came up with my favorite 2-4 donors at three different banks. I sent my bestie each one with pros and cons for each and it was very evident who the front runner was. You will likely have to be screened for any genetic diseases and if you have any or are a carrier for any, that will need to be a part of your narrowing process.
I actually had to go with my second choice donor for some IUIs but none of those resulted in a pregnancy. When I thawed my eggs to fertilize them, my first choice donor was back in stock and I nabbed two vials! 😂 His genetics and mine made the cutest little baby girl I’ve ever seen 🩷
My family and friends, even those who are more traditional , have been nothing but supportive. It’s hard not to fall in love with a baby when he/she arrives.
