Got a random email from a supposed Amazon recruiter for a SDE position (which is not at all a fit). The email is amazon.com domain and there are no red flags in the body but it doesn't feel like an Amazon recruiter due to the tacky signature, etc. Has anyone seen this kind of cold-calling from FAANG recruiter?

B4 no question. My practice sends people to big tech all the time in roles that MBB can never send people to. I'd leverage the higher salary and position for an even higher salary and position in big tech
Buddy, let’s agree to disagree. All I’m saying is if OP is looking to do strategy consulting, OP should go to MBB. I’m not going to argue on technical/implementation work. Also - strategy can exit into banking, PE and VC, exits aren’t just limited to big tech.

Alternate take: I had to take a higher title at ACN strat (and slightly better money) over MBB as my wife could not make the move work to the MBB offices (applied about of B school so applied to a few different places).
I don’t regret it. I loved going straight to manager and I like the more chill (relatively speaking working environment). Also MBB does not do much work in my sector and country.
So I have a chill job but I also know I am good enough for MBB so I can at least be smug about that :)
I definitely make less money now than if I had gone MBB. But I make enough for my family and lifestyle.

It sounds like you should take it. If my wife could make the move I probably would have taken MBB, and who knows how much better it would have turned out?
MBB no doubt
MBB. Long term earnings > short term.
Expect your raises to stagnate after the 50% boost. Unless ofc the quantitive difference is substantial between these 2 multiples (50-60k+). Why don’t you tell us what’s your current comp for starters? Hard to gauge anything without a baseline to estimate from
I would not expect raises to stagnate at b4, but agree long term MBB will have better exit opps

Sounds like you would be going in as an experienced AC or SAC (or equivalent).
Bear in mind comp trajectory is very steep at MBB. Expect you to overtake the B4 role easily within 2 years.
Thanks so much for all the info @bain2. I DMed you w a few more questions

Depends on level, at senior levels where the 30% difference is meaningful then B4, at junior levels (if you’re an associate) MBB for sure
Source: been partner at both
^ this man speaking facts. Below the EM level it is IMO a no brainer to take MBB. But I know a ton of partners who have moved from MBB to B4 and gotten paid $$$$ for it.

Keep in mind that this was much earlier in my career, so a bit of an apples to oranges comparison, but I went with B4 in a similar situation.
I wanted to focus on tech, which really wasn't anything MBB did at the time, so it was an easy decision for me. Yes, my salary growth would've been faster at MBB, and the burn rate on my career would've been higher, but I'm quite happy with how my career has turned out sans MBB.
MBB all the way.
MBB. Comp goes up very quickly so I wouldn’t base a decision on that
🤔
Sounds like you could be taking a massive step down in salary and title to MBB, it's probably worth going for the big 4 role first and try MBB again later on for a more senior title.
Or you could get leveled down and make more money
