Absolutely. If you prove yourself you can move very quickly.
Does it apply to all MBB?

Yes 100%, short term loss for a significant long term gain which can progress a lot faster.
Average time is 2 years between each level. However, will all allow faster progression? E.g 6months - a year ?
No because you can lateral at the EM level.

You need to risk adjust this.
It’s not 100% to get that promo in a year, or ever.
Maybe 50%.
Right, that’s what I’m thinking. It’s clear if you keep progressing to director / partner level it’s a no brainer.
I guess the question is more: how clear is the choice and given the risk what should be the minimum time horizon at the new company to go into this decision

Titles don’t pay the bills.
Don’t underestimate the time required to rebuild advocacy at a new firm. 12 months might be more like 18-24 in reality.
Yes, this is common practice when moving to MBB. 1-1.5 yr set back is certainly worth it in the end. Congratulations

A few thoughts :
1) T1 is a stronger brand and better opportunities
2) the pay will not necessarily be better
3) the progression not necessarily faster
4) moving from consultant to project manager is not trivial - but most likely you will make it given support by recruiting partners
5) sounds like you are excited with the team and opportunity - go for it.
6) most likely you will lose $$ in 3 years horizon comparing to your t2 trajectory ( think $150k range but will gain in 8 years horizon ( think $1m range )
Rising Star
Make sure to risk adjust those values!
What % of associates make director these days? I suspect it’s a lower % for experienced hires. I’ve been out of the game too long.
