If you like who you work with and what you do, jumping for 10k is silly. Over the course of your career, 10k is a rounding error. You have built a reputation with your current firm, while you would be starting all over at ground zero at the new place. I changed firms as a senior manager, and it took years to build up the reputation that I had at the prior firm. You need a much bigger payoff to make that worth your while. Good luck.
I’d stay for manager if you’re close. Grass isn’t always greener and could work for a worse group, bad manager, etc and set back your career. Is $10k worth learning all new systems, learning new employees work/communication habits, etc?
Funny how all the folks here just assume your reputation at your current firm is an asset, when it can quite easily be the opposite
If that’s the case, then this person should definitely jump ship if they have a bad reputation
No because you will get higher bumps annually if you stay. If you go, your annual increase is likely lower so you are in line with peers. They will offer you higher at the start to entice you.
Is your goal to stay in public or move to industry?
Your current place is a known quantity and you have your reputation. You have to rebuild your reputation, learn all new clients, perhaps not get along with new team and clients. You're coming in higher but raises will be lower until you level out.
Some of this would apply to new industry job too.
If you are going to jump to industry these aren't as big factors.
Yours to weigh out
As someone who has done this, I recommend not doing it.
