I personally would not want the money. I like the idea that it's money that I don't see, but goes towards my benefits. It would be painful to have to pay for those things directly out of my pocket and actually see the money leave my bank account.

Interesting… I think the one thing I’d want them to pay me for is my unused vacation time
No. I have a magic bank account. If money goes into it, it disappears. It is truly amazing n that regard. I am probably very un-American, but I wouldn't mind if they increased the taxes to 60 percent of my salary and provided "womb to tomb" coverage for everything in life except rent and groceries. I am definitely living in the wrong country for that, but I really wouldn't want to live anywhere else. That means I have to work 1 1/2 jobs, my wife has to work a full-time job, and I have to pay part of my insurance premium so the super-rich can pay zero taxes -- or even get cash back from the government due to tax credits and deductions. Maybe we should tax all income over $1 million a year at 100 percent.
I think some of those benefits are quite helpful when needed and if we just got the cash, not everyone would actually take advantage of the benefit I.e health insurance, life insurance etc
For me personally, I think it would depend on the specifics of the situation. If I had the option to receive the cash equivalent of my benefits and could use it to purchase comparable coverage or invest in other ways that align with my financial goals, then yeah, I might consider it.
