Heck no! I took a remote job and left a job that paid me $12k more a year. Best decision I ever made. Stress free and I have a great manager. Also, just sold my car and I was able to get $10k above my payoff because I only had 8k miles after 3 yrs. Win-win.
20k after taxes is not worth your time, flexibility, gas, and wear & tear on you automobile. In short, you will find it is a pay cut financially and professionally..
Thank you for the insight
I would not!!
Depends if it has other gains than just salary. A title change, or new skils. And your financial situation. My commute is360 miles a week. With the rest of the drive I do Thats 24k miles a year, account for depreciation and gas expense too. It adds up quickly.
I took the job knowing the drive coats, latheral move but good skils to add to my knowledge and a good team.
You value flexibility? Or extra cash with a little more stress?
Personally, I’d keep the remote and use that time you would be on the road to create a side hustle.
It depends on how hybrid it is. Some places say hybrid and just mean if you aren’t feeling well you can work from home every now and again. And some hybrid jobs basically only make you go into the office every like other week. 75 miles is (at best) 2.5 hours of additional time dedicated to work for work each day in the office. So once or twice a month, ok fine. But two or three days a week, that’ll get old fast. Particularly if you’re gonna be dealing with rush hour traffic. I’d need a bit more than 20k for that, I think.
75 miles each way or one way? This makes a big difference.
I would NEVER trade more time than I can for the sake of working, once you reach a certain level of financial wealth or income. This tradeoff should be even more heightened as we age. We only have so much time, but money is infinite. Money is only tied to the value that we place on it. In theory it doesn’t exist. It exists, in a way to keep order and control.
Time is the true value we should set a higher standard to than money.
75mi one way or both ways? If one way then I would like to go in 1-2 days a week and of my choosing lol. If you care about moving up (and mgmt. is actively grooming u for success) then take it. It’s the after work drinks, meeting their family, etc. that will get you promoted.
If you don’t care about advancement then stick with your fully remote and look for something else - perhaps same role but different industry.
No, the additional money is worth it to me.
I think this depends on your start point. On my current salary, that increase would not be worth losing my personal time to a commute. But I can see how at some starting salaries, that would be a beneficial jump in compensation worth the commute time.
