Is Morgan Stanley currently remote? Just got a job for a contract position in NYC for Morgan Stanley downtown office (1 Penn plaza). I heard from some employees that they are remote but the hiring manager said I should come into office. Kinda confused why a contractor would need to come into office and employees are working remote.

Heck no! I took a remote job and left a job that paid me $12k more a year. Best decision I ever made. Stress free and I have a great manager. Also, just sold my car and I was able to get $10k above my payoff because I only had 8k miles after 3 yrs. Win-win.
20k after taxes is not worth your time, flexibility, gas, and wear & tear on you automobile. In short, you will find it is a pay cut financially and professionally..
Thank you for the insight
Nope! 20k is not worth the commute time and stress. Also, would not want to lose the flexibility to work wherever you want.
No. I did the same thing now my commute is taking a big toll on my body and personal life . 75 miles although all highway will be exhausting. Not at first 2 years but it will .
So why don't you invest into a business that's profitable, and become financial freedom.
Is moving closer to job and option? The market you’ll move to , does it offer more job opportunities in future? Is the position in direction where you want to grow? There are lots of dimensions in a decision big as job switching. Focusing only on one aspect is shortsighted. Good luck in your decision making!
Unfortunately not wanting to move. Thank you for the reply.
No, I’ve been trying it since January and it is exhausting.
It's well
Pay is not everything, consider your future success and goals.
If hybrid meant 1 day a week then yes
I’m doing it, but it’s not that far for me
I absolutely would not. Being in person SUCKS unless you’re willing to be emotionally invested in the company goings-on and you’re a morning person. Personally I like making my money and getting the heck out of there, staying detached emotionally. It absorbs so much of my energy to the point that the only “dream” job I have in life is my exact same job but fully remote. Todays my wfh day and I’m here giving crucial personal advice to my friends who are depressed and I wouldn’t feel comfortable doing this in office even if I had nothing to do. You have a fantastic and increasingly rare opportunity to stay remote, ofc I’m biased but I think you should keep it. If they’ve been hinting at that potentially changing at your current company, then that’s something to factor in as well.
No unless there are other factors the stress is not worth it
Are you hitting all of your goal financially with current role? What does the 20k actually do differently for you and family? After taxes and what you put on vehicle it may not be worth it, but I would be curious if your comfortable in current role or not earning enough for family. Anything you can share is helpful so we can help you!
I feel like you can find another job not needing to commute and earn that extra amount!
Only you can know if the value add is worth it for you. Factor in the cost for the commute and how you value your time and factor accordingly.
Are there job security concerns with the remote role? I left a hybrid role because they acquired a firm abroad to outsource work and I was concerned about the job security. My new job is a very short commute and because it was a lateral but secure offer I took it. It's not a good fit, and I am looking again. I regret leaving the former job instead of riding it out. If I had been laid off I would have more time to look or start my own consulting business. That all said, I would say don't take the hybrid role 75 minutes away. You will be in trouble if there should be a gas crisis.
Nope
100% I would
Nope. More money doesn't compare to the peace of working remote and extra drive times.
With what you’ll pay in gas, tolls and wear/tear in the auto, remote sounds better for you unless you are willing to move closer to that job
Good point, but if its hybrid its fine. I drove 1 hour ans 15 to 30 minutes in my current job.
Nope
No way
