“I went to a small school right outside of Boston”

It happened again last week. “My boyfriend isn’t here because he’s in grad school on the east coast”.
Lmao

Honestly as someone who is low key and doesn’t enjoy much attention, it can be extremely awkward in social situations to mention McK or where I went to school, and some people do assume that you’re bragging when you’re simply mentioning a part of your life. A couple of weeks ago I was in a social situation with people from different jobs/walks of life - someone asked what I did, I said consulting, they asked what firm and when I said McK they literally went “oh wow aren’t you something?” - like how am I supposed to respond to that
You say, “Damn right I am. Now where should I bill this conversation?”

I once met someone at a party who would tell people she was in grad school because “medical school sounds like bragging”.
I told her “you’re in a room with a bunch of finance folks, Engineers, and Consultants. We will be impressed, but we won’t be rendered speechless”. Obviously, I did not go home with her that night.
That’s where us consultants come in! Oh wait, we already did...

Some people don't like unnecessary attention. No need to pick on them for it
I am not sure what OP said is wrong - it’s common sense.

I've spent a sizable portion of my career in industry. By far the two consulting firms most bragged about are McKinsey and Deloitte. 🙄
Not Accenture?
I get more annoyed when someone says "I went to Michigan. Go Blue!"
I'm not even a Michigan rival...they're just annoying 🤪

That's funny because I notice that of Deloitte alum.
No way I feel like Deloitters would stick their chests out like “I started out my career at Deloitte”
So you are saying that people signal their status?
These people don’t realize that it sounds even more ‘snobbish’ to do that.
