ZS associates people: some feedback on your interview process. I think your case is overly hard. Too much information thrown at candidates. Firm wasn't right for me but FYI.

PwC, not to sound mean... But every strategy house/boutique's case is hard in comparison to Big 4. Now if you've also interviewed at MBB and ZS's case was particularly disorganized, that would be good feedback. But just because you couldn't crack the case doesn't mean it's not a good one.

like

Pwc op you're a pussy and make the rest of us look dumb.

like

@ fellow ZSers. From the description, am fairly certain it's the current iteration of the BC panel case for CON entry.

@OP. It's meant to be hard. And I promise you that it can be solved without any prior expertise in real estate, which is also deliberate. We hire from a wide background at CON intake - experienced consulting, PLS industry, new MBA graduate - and not everyone has Pharma experience. So the case tests thought process, and ability to absorb/process new information in a space outside our core business - rather than rewarding those who have Pharma expertise and penalising those who do not. I have interviewed loads of candidates with this case, and it's a good differentiator. Very best wishes for your job search.

Pwc1 you sound a lot like overly confident former colleague from a certain university based in North Carolina.

Regardless post was meant respectfully for ZS peeps. They lock you up in a room with a lot of material but not enough time to sift through material. Case is not hard as such, but structure could be improved. Thinking a lot about hiring process improvement lately.

Out of curiosity, what position were you applying for?

I think it was Senior Consultant (5 yrs exp). Maybe the purpose was to see if you could sift through a lot of information. But doing that + ppt in 45 minutes is too short. There were also some real estate specific calculations, and I don't come from real estate. In the end, I am not interested in pharma, but you may miss out on good candidates who are.

I didn't have to do a case study for PwC. I'm in financial services-privacy. What distinguishes a position where case study is part of interview process vs not?

@3 Cases are much more challenging because you have to work through a new problem, with calculations on market-sizing etc in a relatively short period of time. My gripe with the case study is that ultimately, the jobs we are hired for are the same. I think a case may be a good way to judge undergrads, to gauge communication skills, quant skills etc. However, in the case of experienced candidates, what is the case study meant to prove?

Cases differ by track - were you interviewing for consulting, operations or tech? Also cases are tough for a reason. If the process of interviewing was flawed or you had a bad experience please raise it HR

Consulting. Everyone was super nice. Just no reason for a real estate case, and people who interviewed me after were a bit too open-ended.

OP but how come I didn't have one, while others have? What's different about the positions that have case studies?

@pwc 3: At PwC, some of the experienced hires don't get cases. They are interested in adding your skill set to the firm, so no point in tripping you up with a case. Most of the MBA hires and undergrads get cases.

Honey, Why would anyone interview for ZS in the first place? Mind blown...

Obvious troll is obvious 👹

^coz PwC *cough* is so fun

So had my first interview in one of the big 4 but it got me completely off guard. First one was call screening and then a technical interview. Now what I didn’t expect is rather than technicalities they focused on the consulting a lot more. Now the role that was marketed was technical/Architect and they even said that in current capacity you’ll work here as a technical person. I don’t think it went well. Coming from a technical background I was hoping for coding .
Is it always like this?

Did a first interview with hr rep, went very well. she set up the hiring manager meeting for a few days later. Met with the manager. Another great conversation, went over time and was told I’d hear back about panel set up. Following day I get a request from hr rep to “continue the conversation” with manager. This is set up Tuesday.
Why do you think the manager wants to meet again? Good? Bad? I felt great about the interview when we ended.
