If you could work at any agency, where would you go?

Has anyone been fired? How’d you bounce back? How did you approach it when applying for new jobs? I’m legitimately worried I’ll be fired and could use some advice.

I am a lawyer (based in the UK) and have been practising for 15+ years (financial services/banking). I love being a lawyer but I would also love to do something more creative or more independent. Has anyone moved from law into another role or has anyone done something more creative alongside their full time legal career? I’m feeling a bit stuck!

Just FYI, if you ever miss an issue in an agreement that you don’t catch until late in the deal process, don’t try to blame it on the other side to your client. You’ll get caught.

Trying to explain billable hrs to hubs. I billed 160 this month, which he said “is only 40 hr weeks” (true) - but how many hrs do you figure you “work” or are in the office to bill 150?

Freelancers, do you actually benefit from having an S Corp? Assume someone is earning about $100k in 1099s and $150k in W9s. Everyone says “oh get an s corp for taxes” but does it ACTUALLY help lower your taxes? (Also, can you get ALL 1099s if you bill through your s corp and does THAT help?) Everyone who insists on it says things like “yeah I’m not sure how, but it helps” or “this is my first year doing it.”

I feel inadequate and unsure of how or if to acknowledge the US/Buffalo racist murders and terrorism of this weekend in the workplace. I don’t want to do disservice or unintentionally further traumatize anyone. I know my Black colleagues are traumatized. I am horrified. And yet we just have our meetings and I guess compartmentalize it away.

How would you explain what SAP's cost & profit center are to someone from the Oracle world?

I understand A&M comp is primarily derived from the annual bonus based on collections/performance. However, given the significant increase in Big 4 FDD comp this year, are there any plans to raise the base salary for A&M? I have to pay rent every month not just annually 🤣

I had a very positive experience interviewing with Amazon for an L5 Technical Writer role. I originally applied for a lower level writing role, ending up acing my Loop, and was passed on to speak to the hiring manager for the L5 role.

What is the difference between a Software Engineer I and II? When do you know you're ready to leave your first great SE job? Is there a way to get more money without leaving? I've been at my current company for maybe and year and a half but I'm not sure if I'm good enough to leave yet. My manager always says I'm doing well and I got promoted from SE I to SE II a few months back. Question: I have a client who started a restaurant. He leased the land and bought shipping containers where he spent money contracting out to turn them into bars. I’m having a tough time determining how to depreciate this! First thought was leasehold but he’s not making improvements to a structure...he owns the structure! But nonresidential real estate at 27.5 years doesn’t make sense either as it’s not a brick and mortar building. Curious on others thoughts! TIA
