Advice on taking and passing the SPHR exam?
Am I being underpaid? $100k as a 2nd year litigation associate working mostly on insurance defense/transportation cases with a rate of $220 an hour, expected to bill 2,160 a year at a firm of about 60 attorneys in Dallas. I’m asking for a raise soon, how much is too much to ask for?
Negotiating tips at year-end review for getting an above-average raise? Or do numbers speak for themselves?
New Yorkers: what bank do you use for your checking account? Wondering whether a credit union is the best option. And is there a benefit to using a New York based bank?
Any thoughts on family law as a practice area? Got offered 110k plus bonuses with low billable hours requirement. I'm in Los Angeles. Not sure if I should get into it as a practice area though as I hear conflicting things. Any thoughts would help. Thanks
Does anyone know someone who is or was an attorney for the CIA? I’ve always wondered what that was really like.
Hot take: the TNR typeface requirement is actually a great, egalitarian feature of the legal profession
I just had an employee tell me they are on the verge of quitting due to burnout- actually going to quit but was told to talk to HR for options (we don't have any in place). The manager wants to keep them as they are one of our best employees. Any recommendations on how to help alleviate burnout when the cause is from customers rather than the company? Is it worth it to let the employee leave and spend months looking for a replacement causing more stress/burnout with others?
So my clerkship ended almost a year ago, and I’ve been in private practice since then. The firm I work for now was retained to perform an independent HR investigation. This investigation happens to be on a topic that is currently being litigated. That litigation is before my old boss. I and my supervisor thought this wouldn’t be an issue because I wasn’t appearing before the judge but during a hearing yesterday, they said on the record I can’t be a part of the investigation as it’s “too close”
Does anyone have any tips / tricks to share regarding outreach to passive finance and accounting candidates to get them interested in a conversation?
Been at my firm for 3 years. Considered a “star” associate, doing things on time, etc. My boss randomly asks me to send him a list my assignments and the exact date I plan on “delivering” drafts to him. Thought this was strange but sent it with a caveat that the deadlines I put in are estimates and may change based on circumstances outside my control. He doesn’t respond to my email but forwards it to his assistant to have her calendar all my deadlines immediately. Anyone else think this is weird
I feel like I can’t redeem my career. I’ve been out of paying work since I graduated. My bar was delayed due to a medical problem and since then I’ve only been able to find volunteering. I’ve been working for free for 2 years now. My network is tapped, my mentors are confused why I can’t find anything, my law school’s career services actually gave up on me, I don’t have the money to move to a new place, I have no other support and I can’t even go back to retail because nobody’s hiring out here.
What does your firm allow you to count towards non-billable hours other than standard business development?
I was laid off from a resource management role, working with employees approaching or on the bench, working with managers to staff projects, and support functions like report creation, scheduling, etc. Roles like this are few and many large consulting firms have frozen internal hiring. Do you think it would be beneficial to get a SHRM cert? Would that help get a "talent related" HR role? Worth the money? I have a background in recruitment as well.
Hi Everyone, I am looking for an opportunity in HR in Delhi, India. I have 7 years of experience in HR Operations and Recruitment. Can anyone help me on this.
Hi Everyone! I’ve been thinking about potentially switching from HR to another field of work. I was curious to know if anyone on here started their career in Hr and ended up in a different field? Also, what field did you end up in and why did you make the change? Thanks guys!
My new firm has a large real estate deal practice. There is one regulatory portion that they refer out because they don’t have the expertise. I have that expertise and want to develop a team to handle. What are your thoughts on origination? They’re not my clients but it’s a new line of income for the firm. Yes, I know the “talk to them about it” answer, but I’m more interested in how other firms handle these situations. Also, I’m not a partner.
Who’s hiring AD/ACD?

Does anyone else feel as though they ought to either (1) quit your job or (2) cry when senior folks in your department boast somehow (or complain) they’ve not taken a week+ long vacation in two years?
Which are the best programs in the T30 schools for international business? And would it be better to pursue an MBA with a global focus in the US or try to get into a school like LBS, INSEAD, IMD etc.? Thanks for your thoughts!
Does anyone know anything about Alpha FMC. Curious to hear the culture, projects, and opportunities?
What are some good books or training resources that would help one excel in the consulting world?
Relatively new post-MBA hire here and I’m having second thoughts about getting into consulting. I miss my old industry gig and the predictability it brought (ironically the reason I pivoted). For those who went through something like this and stuck it out, does it get better? How long did it take you to adjust?
How do Big 4 Experienced Hire interviews differ from fresh graduate interviews? Hoping to transition from a boutique firm I joined after college to the Big 4. Interviewed with MBB during school, however, not sure what to expect as an Experienced Hire. YOE 4, Midwest LCOL. Reason: great pay and WLB, but, not challenged and little upwards trajectory.
Does the workload lesson over time, or do you just get used to the longer hours? Hmmmm...
I’m really thinking about going back to school to obtain an MBA in like 2 years. Are there any certification(s) that I should get to increase my chances of getting employed by one of the MBB firms in the meantime? TIA
Anyone willing to help with a Simon-Kucher & Partners referral? I’m currently an Accenture strategy consultant looking to make the move Simon-Kucher & Partners
Hiring Managers: if you have a candidate who has done the exact same job before and interviewed well, and another candidate who hasn’t done the exact same job before but has transferable skills, what would make you pick the second candidate? When I get feedback from interviews, it’s often ‘we are looking for someone who has done this role before’, and I don’t know how to move into a slightly different career if I can’t seem to land a job to begin to get experience in it.

Hi Fishes, Need suggestion plz YOE - 17.6, Present CTC is 24.5 LPA. Role - Scrum Master (SM) / Agile Coach (AC) Not receiving calls for SM or AC even profile is good and have posted in LinkedIn, Naukri, Glasdoor.
