Horrible anxiety about considering a new job.... I was one of the big firm stealth layoffs in covid and joined a boutique firm in Sept. They came sort of close to matching my salary but I moved to SoCal and have an opportunity to jump back in to big law and get $100k raise. The people at the small firm are so nice, but hours are nuts and if I’m going to work this much, I might as well get paid more, right? Is it too soon? How do you tell them when the managing partner took you under his wing?

On top of everything, I am constantly annoyed by the partners taking the credits from my work. No recognition or whatsoever. In turn, the firm tells us to develop business on our own. When we bring in business, the partners snap the credits as quickly as they can. Funny.

Any tips on how best to draft an email asking for work from a partner who I haven’t worked with and who doesn’t know me? I’d like to get on their matters and want to craft an email that would actually get them to respond and be interested in giving me the work (as opposed to just acknowledging my interest and forgetting about it the next day).

Do any AmLaw 200 firms offer fee splitting for associates? As a senior associate, I originate more than my salary and I know that many others with the same title in my firm originate little/nothing. Yet we are all paid about the same base and our bonuses are underwhelming. Sounds like a rant but am just curious.

As people start going back to the office/clients, I’m begging you, please stay home if you don’t feel well. I would have thought that was the one thing minimum everyone would’ve learned over the last year, but I guess not. Even if it’s not covid, there’s still no need to risk getting other people sick.

How do you announce a pregnancy in covid times? This is my second - for the first it was pretty obvious (in person bump) and I told people as I saw them around the office and in meetings. How do I tackle the next layer of coworkers - more than acquaintances but less than friends - Email blast? Announcement during a group call? Ignore and have them figure it out eventually? Recently started working remotely for a consulting firm in NY, currently living in TX. Single with no dependents, haven’t setup 401k or other contributions yet - my first paycheck was taxed at 38%. Because of my residence in TX, no NYC city tax was withheld (correctly). At 125k, 38% seems absurd! I checked multiple online calculators and even manually checked what my contributions should be against the tax tables - I should be closer to 30%. Does this check out? I hope it’s a clerical mistake
