Has anyone interviewed with Amazon in the last 6 months. I finished my loop for a finance role. It’s been 8 business days and no update from the recruiter. I mailed the recruiter who said apologies for the delay but we will get back to you with next steps. Has anyone had this experience and what was the outcome Amazon

If you want to be in sustainability work in sustainability and get hands on experience. No point in going for “prestige” and working in an unrelated field. Consultants are paid for their knowledge, expertise and experience in a field - not because of your “prestigious” firm :) Choose the path that allows you To stand up in front of the client and tell stories about your past work in the area - that’s the $.
I guess that makes sense. Perhaps I also have a bit of FOMO regarding this whole prestige issue. My tendency right now is to go with option 1 (full time sustainability consulting).
MBB carries a lot of weight. However, it is helpful to check the backgrounds of people who are currently in your desired role.
Good finding! Some roles, like the ones I’ve been interviewing for, have been 90% MBB teams. It’s good to hear for your role this prestige is not necessary
MBB. Prestige will open up a lot of doors.
Ok, let's say it would be Kearney or OW instead of MBB. Does the argument still apply in your point of view?
With such a focused goal seems like you need to get hands on experience.
I have been indoctrinated with this idea of prestige and honestly don't have a solid understanding of it's role in career trajectories in the field of sustainability.
I know for "classic" experience (strategy, finance, ops/supply chain) MBB/T2 have strong signaling value and positively impact placements within and outside consulting (ceteris paribus).
Not sure if the prestige element applies equally to the sustainability game.
Deloitte and prestige doesn't mix already tho?
I still think it's the same position.
For me, I chose the best team that only does HE work, because I only want to work in HE. If I were in your shoes, I'd pick the best team that only does Sustainability work.
I’m so sick of MBB being looked at as “prestigious”. I’ve worked with them multiple times on projects. They are no better than any of the other big firms. Trust me when I say that future you does not want to work at a place that values “prestige” over applicable, real world work experience. You’ll just end up doing fluff work your entire career, hoping that one day you’ll get an opportunity to do the work you actually want to do.
It does indeed matter. I’ve been interviewing for strategy roles at high growth startups. Strategy teams are like 90% MBB + Ivy League. It’s pretty tough to break in at B4, even when you get the interview
I think mbb do a lot of sustainability work, definitely much more than B4 anyway so I’d check if you can combine 1+2.
It's fairly ad hoc. Entry would be generalist (hence 2-3 years) with possible alignment to an industry that works on sustainability-related industries (energy, retail, public, etc.). Majority of the work would be somewhat unrelated to the topic.
Following this conversation and similarly wondering about long term career in sustainability and whether going MBB route makes more sense or joining Accenture directly in their sustainability practice?

Work for McKinsey Global Institute
I’m interested. It looks like this is pretty much for existing McKinsey consultants, though, correct? I haven’t seen any job postings where folks are getting brought on specifically for MGI.

The only way Accenture Strategy would help is if you worked for a client you want to move to. For example, Accenture Strat has been a close partner of the World Economic Forum on Sustainability issues for a few years now.
But overall: MBB is a different league and will in 99% of cases be more likely to open the door you want.
Forgot to mention: I'm European and consider the European market long-term.
Generally, if you want to specialize, you need relevant experience. If a more prestigious shop can't guarantee relevant experience, the prestige alone is unlikely to help you.
We tend to overindex on prestige and signaling value. In reality there are very few industries (the usual professional services ones) that actually care about prestige when evaluating applicants - the vast majority care about relevant experience.
To find out whether this applies to your case, I would check backgrounds at the places you want to exit to and try to get a rough idea of how specialized people's backgrounds are. I sure hope you don't find that they're all Oxbridge FS consultants from London, but who knows
