A4: MLA is a huge recruiting shop, so I wouldn't say to discount all of them, I was more just critiquing Kate specifically. πŸ˜… But I've also worked with Kinney Recruiting and was not impressed.

She's insufferable and I can't stand half of her "advice". πŸ™„ There are many reasons people are wary of telling recruiters about being laid off.

like

Absolutely correct.

Absolutely do not tell your recruiter. Their contracts with firms may oblige them to inform any firms they submit you to.

likesmarthelpful

Seems like you’re just working with garbage recruiters then. I’ve worked with three and none of them were required to tell firms anything, nor did they. One said there were a firm or two they couldn’t submit me to because their agreement prohibited it, but that’s it.

You’re blowing things way out of proportion and making a lot of generalizations. Feel free to DM if you want the name of a trustworthy recruiter.

The only way this would be true would be if the recruiter would work for the associate but I am very certain that is not true.

Please, I need your opinion on this. I have 6 years of experience as a software developer and just finished my masters degree in data science. Now I am looking for a job here in the US. I went through the hiring process with this company and finally got an offer. They offered 88k/year and I responded opening a negotiation. They emailed me back saying that I am no longer in this process anymore with no further explanation and in Thanksgiving day. Is that normal?that email really got me very upset

Any Atomic Habit readers here? I’m brainstorming identity-based habits for two things I want to change:

-I want to bill more hours, so my goal is to become the type of person who bills at least 8 a day
-I want to drink less alcohol, so my goal is to become the type of person who drinks occasionally

Neither of these feel that helpful. Any one have suggestions for other identity-based goals that get at these changes I want to make?

After you are stealth laid off, other than job search, what do you do? I assume they won’t give you work and even if they do, you can politely decline? How do you feel about you are not progressing anymore and seeing other people progressing in their career? I have no intention to make partner, but still feel a bit stuck not doing that much.

Y’all. NO ONE KNOWS HOW MANY PEOPLE, AND WHO, WILL BE LAID OFF. The economy may bounce back next month or next year. It may get much worse or maybe we just sit stagnant before things improve. Firms may lay off a lot or maybe just super low performers. No one knows. Stop reading tea leaves and just work hard and try to save a bit more than usual. There’s nothing else you can do.

Considering a jump from Chicago to New York. I truly love living in Chicago and how far this salary gets me but I definitely want to try to make it in New York.

The only problem is my significant other has a lot of negative opinions about New York. I ultimately want to return to DC but I feel like a few good years in New York would be really good for me. In terms of a place to live, where in Manhattan can I find a place that's similar to River North in Chicago?
