Y’all. NO ONE KNOWS HOW MANY PEOPLE, AND WHO, WILL BE LAID OFF. The economy may bounce back next month or next year. It may get much worse or maybe we just sit stagnant before things improve. Firms may lay off a lot or maybe just super low performers. No one knows. Stop reading tea leaves and just work hard and try to save a bit more than usual. There’s nothing else you can do.

Coworker got fired because they stole my clients! We have a policy stating that the realtor who initiated the contact should be the one closing the deal to give them a fair chance. I feel bad but they should have read the policy...

After you are stealth laid off, other than job search, what do you do? I assume they won’t give you work and even if they do, you can politely decline? How do you feel about you are not progressing anymore and seeing other people progressing in their career? I have no intention to make partner, but still feel a bit stuck not doing that much.

I started a full time in-house design job that pays extremely well. I barely have to work at all. This makes me very confused since I kept hearing stories of people working 60+ hr weeks as designers at ad agencies. I am not complaining, but I have this creeping irrational feeling that I’ll get fired for not working even though there’s nothing for me to do. Should i be making up projects or asking for more work? Who is still in denial about a housing correction? The Fed just made another .75% increase. Powell said they won’t stop until inflation is 2%. He also said a recession would be better than the consequences of unchecked inflation. He announced he will bring rates to a “restrictive level” until “the job is done”. He said that labor demand needs to soften (ie: layoffs). He very explicitly said he wants to slash demand and that housing needs a “correction”.

I started my career at PWC audit in 2019 and got laid off last year due to covid. I got an offer and started working at a 2 tier (BDO, RSM, GT... level) accounting firm for 1 month. Now PWC partner extended me an offer to go back. Any thoughts?

Would love to hear thoughts on best approach of you are a senior associate at V10 firm. Do you just become counsel until they tell you that partnership is not in the cards or do you try to hop to the first partnership (equity, or at least NEP with clear progression to equity if you bring in some business) opportunity at a say V50 firm. I’m not home grown at my current firm, but do have a small book currently.

Any tips for how to better implement feedback on drafts? My work is so heavily redlined that I struggle to consistently follow through with every comment/feedback. I am in patent prosecution, so it is a lot of detailed technical writing, but is also fairly formulaic, which is nice. Thankfully the partner I work with is extremely patient and a very good teacher, I would just like to be better at learning from his very thorough feedback.
