Question. When you say “wrote award winning copy”, what does that mean?
At face value, it sounds like your area of expertise is long form. And if that’s the case, you very well may lack “deep ad experience”. They are not the same thing.

OP, When you say “broadcast spots” do you mean network promos? B/c those aren’t the same a commercials for brands.
The industry favors award ridden rockstar creatives. Truth is, CCOs are always on the chopping block and treat these new hires as their chance to hit it big. Ironically, those are the most dysfunctional creatives, they are individual contributors and poison the moral at many agencies. Nothing worse than grinding away each day and doing the hard work to see those big opportunities go to a lone wolf swat team.
Living this right now.
I think most hiring managers lack professional understanding of the roles they hire for.

I swear staffing treats every job now like they’re staffing Michelin chefs for the kitchen at Arby’s. The timeline to hire someone is literally longer than the projects they’re being hired for.

Wonder if this is one of those cases where the actual team including leadership would have liked to work with you but the recruiter lacks even superficial knowledge of how the industry works.

20 years in the business, we’ve worked on the same brands. I would kill for a quick job to write a white paper or something right now.
I think it feels different from being in a rough market a la 2008 because were so senior and have so much experience. And there’s a lot of us and not many asking for that kind of experience.
Honestly, the excuse for rejection sounds like a smokescreen for the first line of your post.
That’s my assumption as well.

Yes, it’s not YOUR questioning or phrasing I’m taking issue with.
It’s the idea that we’ve gotta chase these meaningless tokens to advance upwards and even when we “win”, that prestige has the shelf life of guacamole already turning brown at the edges.
That’s what I find ridiculous.
Reach out to the ECD / CCO and ask for a coffee. Why is no one doing this?

Awards don't always bring business. Anyone can buy a bunch of awards. People are smart these days
