damn doesn't sound so distressed to me
Whose pp does one need to kiss to get such a progression?
I also work at a hedge fund, it's not really a 'progression' in pay. it looks like progression because you simply get better at your job.
I'm in the wrong line of work
Clearing $1M after 5 years is nuts
Chief
What bank and PE fund? Cause those TCs are highly outside of market rates for top paying firms those years lol. I am pretty sure you are trolling here
Chief
I will stand corrected then, thx team
Why are ppl following the what’s your salary fishbowl if you are just gonna get triggered by someone else’s accelerated path to high comp? If u want a more mediocre one here’s mine:
1st year out of college: 85 base + 45 bonu + 32 profit sharing. Shitty job so I went to finance
2nd yr - analyst in commercial banking 85+16k
3rd yr lateralled to another bank as associate: 120k left before bonus
3rd yr —associate at PE 125+125
4th yr —still associate 125+125 + 50 carry.
Ya’ll need to stop feeling insecure by the 5 guys that are outliers. Use this board to get inspired /motivated or to negotiate, not have an anxiety attack.
I feel super poor now! Great going OP! Director and at $230k.
Made $140k straight out of undergrad? Whose dad got you that gig, or are you in NYC/San Fran?
Weed industry? That sounds outrageous
I don’t get hate on this post especially from consultants. You should know people in high finance make way more than us.
E.g, friend in prop fund is 29 and made like $7M bonus in 2021. He probably did even better last year when markets were super high vol. Market making is $$$
Yeah and prop fund market makers / hf traders is a huge leap above even IB
Basically trying to say prop fund market makers and hf trafers are borderline genius level smart. Top of their class at top schools, multiple majors 4.0s across the board.
Gifted at math and logic / market making / probability games on the fly etc.
Congrats, very impressive.
OP - can you share your school? Also what role in HF? Was path from PE to HF easy, and what made you want to switch?
Analyst
which school did you go to and what was your major? Can a master of finance help get into your field?
Are you hiring?
We are actually. If you work at another distressed fund, PM me. (distressed experience is an absolutely inviolate requirement)
What do you actually do. Like what are the day to day activities for someone doing IB making $1.5 with 5 years experience?
Page 22 here illustrates just some of the many opportunities and trades a single firm can capitalize on in a distressed situation (Apollo / Hertz): https://d1io3yog0oux5.cloudfront.net/_32f3afe7e8a654687fed6465a36a7fc3/apollo/db/2219/21025/presentation/apollo-investor-presentation-may%25202022.pdf
Rising Star
Those numbers are definitely real. I have a group hedge fund clients who are in the late 20s to late 30s who are making a lot more than that.
Well… i obviously chose the wrong career path. Wow. Genuinely impressed.
