They want to pitch your refs
Of course they do. Which is why I'm so annoyed. I know nothing will ever happen with it. They were 3 really jr guys at staffing firms. I'm not going to let you annoy my references as much as you annoy me.
Don’t talk to them until they send a job description and expected salary
My dude, I've been looking all over (I'm Europe) but all I got is rejection. 7 years in Mck and two higher titles, certification, tech capacity and ample experience in business. Over 50 CVs sent on the past 2 weeks, 0 interviews...
Dear dude, it’s Europe, in July. Time to find your zen.
With 7 years in Mck and with higher titles etc, I’m sure you’ve seen how Europeans are on holiday every July and August. Take a breath and regroup.
In September, there will be a short sprint to fill remaining 2024 vacancies. That will happen in organisations where it is “use it or lose it” for job reqs.
Also in September, companies will be close to setting their budgets for 2025. You will start to see job postings for a January start date, when their budgets become available.
You can’t influence these waves. You need to prepare for your opportunities. You need to surf to where the waves are going to be.
You got this!
I’ve spoken to more than a few recruiters over the decades, and quite a few are also headhunters. When they get to know you, they can look out for jobs specifically for you. Then they get the commission from the company hiring.
By headhunter, I mean those people who are either looking to fill executive positions or who are looking to fill very important high demand consultants.
If they get to know you and then you’re on the back burner for a little bit, when they find something that looks like a perfect fit for you, it’s an easy bonus for them. It’s not always like that, but when it works out, it’s <chef’s kiss>!
Coming back to this - I'm looking to contract and there are very few real headhunters willing to talk to you without a job lined up.
Ironically - the guys I was talking to all ended up being really young guys (two or three years of experience that I saw on Linkedin). That reeks of being told to go find leads by my manager, rather than I'm making a relationship for the future. I few weeks prior to this day, I had one recruiter pester me to introduce them to my current client since they have been trying to work with them for a while - that truly felt grimy.
The guys that I have real relationships with from a contract perspective never reach out without a job. Love working with those guys and I get real info on the market when I talk to them.
Where did they find you?
