I worked to 39 weeks last year. At about 35 weeks I started sleeping propped up on the couch every night bc laying in bed was so uncomfortable. I also began working 100% remote to eliminate the small daily tasks of getting ready, driving to the office, having to walk across the office to the bathroom, etc. Minimizing or eliminating the small daily tasks helped.
I also started making a lot of lists. They were for things like remaining purchases for baby prep, things that needed to be done before delivery, what days bills had to be paid, what tasks had to be done at work, who was going to take over specific clients. It reduced the brain fog.
Yes, I have to make super detailed lists or I can’t remember everything to be done!
Is taking short term disability leave an option? Not sure what criteria is needed during pregnancy to make it happen, but I’ve heard sometimes women have gotten that for morning sickness
Yeah, I should have said more generous than companies outside big 4. Once you move to industry I don’t know how it works in terms of what you would need to prove “disability” pre-birth, but I’m guessing most people don’t even bother because it might use up some of the leave time that they’d rather spend with the baby
I worked until 37 weeks, luckily at EY we can take the two weeks off prior to your delivery, I had an induction scheduled at 39 weeks.
I basically worked from the couch or a recliner during the last few weeks and took a nap during the day. I had major insomnia so sometimes I started work earlier so I can end my work day to take a nap.
I worked up till 39 weeks, I was able to work 100% remote the last month which made it much easier (didn’t have to get all done up/ready) more of a flex day of when I started/finished.
I also had a lot of doc appts in the final month so was helpful to have the flexibility to take mornings/afternoons off as needed.
How’d people work in the office while pregnant? Better yet how’d my mom work as a nurse while pregnant… any way you could take leave early?
I’ve wondered about it too. Pregnancy is rough and being online and having to keep it together while juggling all the demands of busy season… I wish you good luck sis ❤️ and a healthy and safe delivery
I worked until 39 weeks when I had my scheduled c-section. I worked remotely the last 2 or 3 weeks which was a big big help. Also allowed me to do some final nesting (baby laundry, cleaning the house, painting the nursery 😅) in short spurts throughout the day.
I spent the final month training back fill, writing procedures, etc. mostly. Or being left alone to knock out solo work. I strategically turned down work assignments that I thought wouldn't be completed before my leave timing.
I had to work lying down (on my side, obviously) while stretched out on my bed for the last month until my doctor said I needed to stop. Had 2.5-3 weeks instead of the 2 weeks EY will give you. Sitting up was so uncomfortable and would bring on Braxton Hicks contractions that I could only make stop by lying down and taking the pressure off. (It was twins and my belly was gigantic.)
