It’s your body’s way of prepping you for the broken sleep cycles and disruption of a solid night’s sleep you’re used to. It’s an early training system for YOU so that you’re more prepped for when the baby gets here.
I took some buffered chelated magnesium because pregnancy insomnia is real and it’s frustrating. It is training as a previous poster said. I was up every 4 hours for the last trimester, with poor sleep because it’s just hard to sleep with the extra weight. I also woke myself up from snoring so I tried to be upright. But it was really bad, like woke up every hour towards the end and just crying from exhaustion.
Anyways, enough about me. Ask the doc about magnesium. Maybe get some light stretching/exercise in.
It sucks but it will pass. Also F those people that always say “wait till.” It’s BS. And your sleeplessness should not be invalidated.
Ugh! I don’t have an advice because I had the same problem BUT... don’t believe what people say about life with a baby. You will get sleep. Better quality than now even though there will be some interruptions.
I realize I may be an anomaly but my 20 week old has been sleeping 12 hours for about 5 or 6 weeks now. A colleague of mine recommended the magic Merlin sleep suit (look it up on Amazon) and it seems to work.
Good luck! 🙏🏻
Sorry to hear that FCB 1! 😩
Pregnancy pillow? I also found hunger woke me up (I found it hard to eat much in the evening) so having mini muffins for 3am hunger pangs helped me sleep better too.
I have one. It’s okay. I’m not as hungry as night but peeing does wake me up so I try to stop drinking an hour before
Unisom is safe for pregnancy. I take it before bed for nausea but it also helps sleep. With my first I also had INSANE insomnia my last month. Like taking a bath at 4am insomnia. I will say when the baby was born I did not feel as exhausted as I expected to.
I’ve been experiencing the same but it only got worse the deeper into my pregnancy. My doctor me that if I can’t fall back to sleep in 20-30 min, I should get up and do a small task (write a list, read a book). By then your brain and body might be tired enough to sleep. Seems counterintuitive but that’s what I’ve been doing and it seems to help.
Melatonin helped me sometimes.
I started doing magnesium epsom salt baths and using this body lotion and I noticed it was the only time I slept well. https://8sheep.com/collections/organic-pregnancy-products/products/sleepylotion
It’s amazing and seriously what got me through my pregnancy!
Magnesium. I used the calm powder brand or Unisom.
Chug water during the day so you aren’t peeing at night. Take a 15 min nap if you can squeeze it in at any point. I have heard lots of moms have luck with Unisom, but didn’t try it myself because my bladder is my main issue. I still get up like 3x a night but it’s improved since I changed my drinking habits.
I take unison in the morning and I used to take it at night but stopped. I wonder if that might be contributing.
What’s waking you up - your body or your brain?
Do you have a body/maternity pillow? That might help
I’d try to get myself Into the mode ... dim the lights a couple of hours prior to bedtime.
Try to do your main hydration earlier in the day and hold off on too many liquids in the evening hours (avoiding middle of the night pee sessions), cut the screen time and get a book.
Listen to some soothing tunes with baby, & love on your belly & all this time you have now before they get here! If you have someone at home with you to do so — some mild foot rubs can really help kick up the relaxation feels you need!
I took unisom my entire pregnancy. It helped with the nausea and the insomnia. I’d recommend taking half a tablet when you go to bed and then if you wake up in the middle of the night, take the other half.
Unisom- a reproductive psychiatrist told me about it. It’s safe for pregnancy and over the counter
I’ve been using a meditation app called Expectful. It follows every week of pregnancy with soothing noise and tidbits about your baby and your body. It puts me out in like 2 minutes. I’m an up at 3 am-er right now too.
Ugh yesssss I totally had pregnancy insomnia starting around 6 months. I watched so much Selling Sunset into the wee hours, I’m mortified looking back 🤣
My obgyn gave me a small script for Ambien. I was working FT & getting 2 hours/night & was a mess. It helped me get 5 hours which was all I needed to function. I only used it a tiny bit but it really helped. Much luck to you!
