Do you expect that they’d respond positively if you called it out? Doesn’t seem like it’d be very productive if they are in a position of power and it has obviously gone to their head.

That's what we all think, they were pretty good and cheerful and perfect team players, power spoils people
Some of it is the nature of the new role. They're part of group making higher-level decisions behind the scenes. They're also busier than you think. Also, finally, communication style changes when you move into management. It's not as lax at the top. You have to use your words carefully. There can be severe consequences otherwise. And the reality is, they do have more power now, but they're also responsible for more. How their direct reports perform reflects on them. So they have the added pressure / responsibility of ensuring their team is performing now, not just them. Speaking as an Engineer who recently made the transition to management. They're just adapting to the new role. Don't take it personally.

Maybe theyre trying to set some boundaries. They may be involved in making decisions that y'all may not like.
