OP - what’s your job location? & are you on L1?
Nevertheless that’s a low salary (not very low). The average sal for your level is 165-170 so 15/20k less is no big deal. Good that you are getting SM - which is more important. I have 11 years of total exp and just have a Btech from a private college in India. 8 years exp in India and 3 in us. Just got promoted to SM with a 230k new base. So, the reason should not be the India edu but because you never changed your job by which you never got a good salary bump.
My advice - Do not do anything and get promoted to SM first. Then take up the salary revision matter and target to make 190/200 in the year after promo. If on H1 - make a jump after promo. If in L1 keep trying your best to get better salary and get you GC done in EB1..
Let us know for more advise- thanks
OP - not true. Most change within a year of promo to Mor SM. If you want to change - do now and easily you will get 200k+.
After few years you will have to build your promoters and should be gearing up for partnership.
But if you think you have a very strong network of Deloitte Clients where you can build a portfolio of a couple of millions each year which is going to help you to become a partner - then you may not want to leave Deloitte.
150k definitely a bit on the lower side... however I must add that typically what I have seen MBAs from outside US are not viewed at the same level as US ones (yes even if you are an IIM grad). There may be exceptions but I am talking in general. At PwC we have 2 diff pay scales for MBas and non- MBAs, however that pay diff goes away when you reach the Director level, so am assuming a similar principle should apply to you as well (again depends on how D pays out). Ideally you should be in the 190-220k range
...is too small for a reasonable SM level salary. Is that a legitimate concern? Looking at the compensation levels in the Comp bowl, I always feel bad. But I know things are different for us Desi's, esp if we have an Indian education (MBA from an IIM in my case).
That definitely sounds v low.. but v r on the same boat :)
Really ? I am SC about to be promoted to M this year and I currently make more than that. Your worry is legitimate OP. Perhaps talk to your group’s leadership about recalibrating your comp with market rates?
Mba from IIM should command more. From what I have heard ..top IIM is better than many well known bschool in usa..
Thanks for all the advice. I had always suspected that I am not being given enough per market value, esp. since I am based out of NYC. I just got my GC earlier this year, so evaluating options too. There is a school of thought that it is harder to change jobs after SM
I think if you are part of systems integration practice that base may not be bad as manager. For S&O, it may be little less.
M1 - Not SI, not tech, but in Advisory (so, not S&O)
M2 - Exactly what I have been told in not so direct terms in one of my previous salary negotiations.
