A recruiter just told me I wasn’t a fit because I didn’t have experience with their proprietary system. Never mind that I’ve picked up new tools in days and even trained coworkers before. It feels like hiring is becoming more about checking boxes than evaluating real skill. When did the ability to learn stop mattering? And what’s the best way to frame transferable skills so they actually count?

That reminds me of someone who created a coding language 5 years prior getting denied from a job because they didn’t have 10 yrs experience in said language. Whoever created the job listing was either delusional, or they didn’t want to hire externally.

Out of touch recruiters and managers. They know my experience before they call, so why bother wasting their time? I already know mine matters little to them.

Lazy hiring. The recruiter doesn't seem to be the right fit if they cannot consider you pick up on systems easily as I'm sure you've listed various others. We have enough issues with a shortage of jobs vs people looking and then we deal with this. I'm sorry you're going through this.

Hello all, i have. A question regarding compensation for a lateral move. I just received a job offer for an UA position from a competing cyber insurance carrier for $70,000 + bonuses. This job will be based out of San Francisco. I currently make $30/hour for the same role in Chicago, after OT it’s about $60,000. Do you think it would be wise to accept the offer? Currently a paralegal at a small start up financial services company been there for just a little over a year. I wear “multiple hats” but more recently I’ve done a lot of PM work and some BA work. My position title is changing soon but I’m wondering how helpful that would be for wanting to go into PM work at a tech company. Anyone have any career pivot advice? (Also I’m only 1.5yrs old in my career so I’m definitely still new, and I have previous experience as a project assistant).

I have 2 masters (mba, ms) from top schools, been in consulting for over 10 years, I am confident that I know my stuff well..but still I keep getting rejected. Interviewed with Google, Amazon, Cisco, McKinsey, and a few others and every-time there is something that is not a match... are the hiring managers looking for like 100% match? That will never happen!!!

Has anyone ever posted a general marketing position? We have an open position on our marketing team but we are unsure what type of position to offer. We have a wide variety of needs but don’t necessarily need to have this future person have all these skills. For example we need someone with great copywriting skills and also need someone who is great at digital marketing. This person doesn’t necessarily need to have both skills but if they did great, but if only one, great too.

So, after a year of not so quietly making it known that I wanted to make the transition from the tech side to the business side I have officially been extended an offer to take on a Project Manager internally (coming from a software configurer). The client I have been assigned to has many of our products, however, the specific project I have been assigned to is a problem child and has damaged the companies relationship with the client. Any advice for a new, young PM being shoved into a problem?
