A woman here: just accepted a fantastic job offer and managed to score 4 of them being unemployed during the search. I want to reward myself for the hard work of owning my career. But I don’t want Hermès, Chanel, VCA or Cartier as it feels like an empty purchase now with all the wfh. I thought of new Balmain blazer, but again WFH. What would you buy for yourself as a reward? Extra points for sustainability. No Tesla, please; I hate the way they treat their employees.

Have you considered an Hermes silk scarf?

It won't set you back too much, and is pretty practical for work from home because you can throw it on over a t-shirt.

like

That's a good idea! Thanks!

like

Congratulations!! I am a big fan of jewelry - one simple every day piece that you never take off can really make you feel good, even if you’re WFH. Becomes your signature something and feels really comforting.

Maybe you're right... I was thinking to get a tennis bracelet for a while now..

Congratulations on your role!

Naadam cashmere, it’s not even close to as pricey as most of the suggestions. But it’s a sustainable brand and all about feeling cozy and comfy.

Honestly, upping your general wardrobe with sustainable, natural fibers will instantly make you feel more comfortable and it fits the WFH life. You could splurge on a whole new vibe for the price of the one of the bags.

That said, Hermès has not been accused of having sweat shop / Chinese factories (unlike Chanel, LV, etc who have been accused of making in China and “assembling” in the place on the “made in” label), so, if you do go for a socially responsible bag, go for Hermès :)

Thank you! I love Naadam and have several sweaters from them.
My luggage cracked, I took it as a sign, and ended up buying myself a set from Tumi as a gift :)

It’s a very personal question but I would go for jewelry! A beautiful necklace or earrings will show on zoom and definitely brighten my mood! And jewelry is something you can keep forever to remember this fabulous milestone. Whatever you choose - you deserve! Congratulations!!

Hmmmm I feel like this varies a lot per person! For me personally, I’d commission a bespoke piece from one of the indie lingerie designers I follow. Lingerie has always been one of those things I’ve loved and bought primarily for myself. And it has the added bonus of supporting a small business (for most of my favs, the designer is the only employee and they do literally everything themselves). I guess the other, more typical thing I might get is my dream Mini Cooper.

like

Thank you! I love it so much!

I would get a new laptop or fitness equipment! Life isn’t all about materialistic goods (though a laptop is an object) and esp during the pandemic, we should ask ourselves how we really spend our money and what are we most driven by. Inner fulfillment > material fulfillment!

like

Thanks! I ended up getting a new luggage!

You were able to find the job while unemployed?

Yeah, I was so exhausted at my last job, I left. Then I spent two months just resting and prepping for a job search. I spent eight years at my previous company, so I needed to compact my story and figure out what I want to do, and then it took me three months to get four job offers.

Hello,
I've recieved an offer from Morgan Stanley, my previous salary was around 6 Lpa and last offered was around 15 Lpa (WFH), I quoted 40 to 45% on top of that around 22 Lpa considering Mumbai location, WFO and Glassdoor pay range.
Did I just do a mistake by quoting too high a number? Please let me know your opinions.

TikTok or Cepheid Biotech
Hey guys, I need to make a decision today on whether I want to start a career as a Talent Sourcer at TikTok or as a Onboarding Specialist at Cepheid, a Biotechnology company. Both in the Bay Area at $35 per hour and both are currently WFH. The TikTok position is less stable and very numbers driven, while the Onboarding position is more “secure” but less exciting. Interested in everyone’s opinions on replica luxury. I ask because, as noted in the previous thread re: Chanel’s price increases, the quality of authentic luxury bags is going way down while the price increases consistently. Specifically Chanel and LV. I’m fascinated in the online rep community and it looks like rep quality has increased exponentially (with genuine materials and 1:1 markings, stitching, hardware, etc).
