I only buy clothes that can wear for both. We don’t dress up at our school. Pretty much anything goes. For students and staff.
Fellow Art Teacher here. I can't really say how much I spend on clothes for work, but I can give you my tips.
I tend to buy things that are not trendy & last a long time.
We can wear jeans at my school. Some of my jeans are over 10 years old.
Invest in some aprons or smocks to protect your clothes. Make sure they have pockets for your tools, brushes, pencils, etc.
Invest in sturdy shoes with good support. Earth shoes, Vionic sandals, etc. I don't wear heels.
If your school allows school t-shirts or sweatshirts, invest in a few as your go-to gear.
Usually I buy casual pants for work. Then dresses for personal wear
I teach 5th grade and mostly buy clothes for teaching in. We can only wear nice jeans on Friday's and are supposed to dress professionally the rest of the week. When my school clothes are no longer suitable for wearing to school, they become weekend wear. I admit to being a clothes addict though.
Oh my gosh. Art is like science where we are always covered in gunk.
I dress more for what I am doing after school than during school. We have a fairly lax code. Pretty much don't look like a hobo....
So my school outfits are things I'd wear on the weekends out running errands too.
Rarely will I dress up.
I wear the same thing in my personal life as I wear at work. If they don’t like it they can let me go and go find someone else.
