Need advice & perspectives: I got a verbal review from my manager saying he couldn’t see me as senior cuz I didn’t follow the design doc format he mandates from all designers. While I have been the only designer who does almost everything from design, UI asset creation, wiring up UI in Unity (I am in mobile gaming).
Also the product I’m on has been in MVP stage, things move extremely fast and design decisions changed constantly. He’s not on my team.
Am I crazy for thinking him a bad manager?

No, you are not crazy.
Part of the job is showcasing our value to managers, that’s how I try to think about it…
I’m in a similar situation trying to prove my value… it seems like you need to spend a lot of time doing extra work to make them admit you are already on the next level

Thank you so much for validating! And thank you for sharing your experience too! Yeah..I definitely feel I need to spend more time on convincing him than convincing my day to day teammates..which is really frustrating..

Does anyone have any advice on how to deal with discrimination as an Asian in the workplace? I am not generalizing that this is how it is everywhere but it definitely is that way in my workplace. Any advice?

I have been working in an interim role as a portfolio manager. I was promised that the role would be mine. Its a political minefield.

Hi everyone,

I’m in a pit of a pickle…I’m leading my very first project (case study) with a team of 5. We’re all in different countries and different time zones 😬

What do I need to include on the project plan/roadmap so there’s a clear understanding of what our goals are? How do I get everything to align for success and how do I keep everyone motivated?

How can I get experience with user testing and interviews if clients don’t value it?
I’m a designer at an agency looking to land a product design position. I’ve got 8 years experience, started as a brand designer and now focus solely on web and product design. I work with agile dev teams and have worked on real products that have shipped (mostly b2b). Many of the positions I’m interested in ask for experience with user testing and interviews, which I have not had the opportunity to do.

Does anyone know any former elementary teacher who made a successful transition to UX or Product Design?

Of course, I have very little income to spare for additional training. I have an amateur freelance graphic design background and I’m teaching myself as much as I can, along with working on the Google UX Design certificate through Coursera.

I’m also trying to figure out how to best sell my teaching experience on a resume. I want to frame my data analysis skills, etc. any tips?

Hey designers, how do you choose which work projects make it into your portfolio as case studies?

Impact? Depth of the project? Level of complexity?
I’m struggling to decide what to put in mine.

I’ve had several great interviews with a few diff companies. Or rather, I thought they went well but then I get the dreaded “thanks but we made the difficult decision to move forward with other candidates”. I’ve asked for feedback but so far have gotten none.

I know it’s competitive out there, but I also don’t know how I can either position myself better, seek positions that are more aligned with my expertise/experience, or work on improving certain areas.

Any advice on how to proceed?
