It's going to suck. You'll learn soooo much. Don't say no if you plan on advancing in your firm but start telling your friends and family that your year is going to be more unpredictable than normal (not saying you'll be working around the clock all year, but there will be fire drills). I think it would be totally acceptable to talk to the engagement team / your counselor or whatever about anything you should specifically focus on before starting given your background and who you should turn to for help if you're unsure about something. The reality is that on a first year public there should be an expectation that you'll have a lot of questions as issues will probably be coming up constantly.
You keep posting this you are freaking out too much. It’s not the end of the world you will be fine. I was staffed on first year after first year, you will have SM and P to support you and you can ask other teams for sample workpapers/guidance.
Ask the partner or director or senior manager on the team for guidance
Tell him that you would like advice on how you should plan the engagement
Ask the senior manager or director if there is a comparable audit you can reference. Use another audit as kind of like your checklist as to what you need in ur audit binder.
When in doubt or if you’re stuck. On Mondays I would check in with the senior manager or director on the audit and lay out what you plan to do for the week and ask them if that’s correct or if you should focus elsewhere
Your best friend is going to be communication with the higher levels
If you don’t do this you’re going to take a lot longer and over think everything.
I did audit for a couple years fyi I’m not just in tax and I have about 11yrs total accounting experience
No need to freak out, you will be fine. Its always seems so much scarier than it actually is. You defintiely have people who are there to support you so you aren't alone in this new role. Utilize your supervisors to help you in this transition.
