...More like fast track... I have worked at SIs, agencies and now big 4 and I get the best pay and work with the most talented people now. Companies hire us *because* we are expensive—because you have to pay the best people competitively, and we have a track record of solid delivery and standing behind our work. I was hesitant too (because where do you go from here? Answer: anywhere you want, but there is a long productive, educational, lucrative road here without going anywhere. Hope that helps!
I can only speak for Deloitte, this firm is built on relationships. A partner or MD works with a client, they know we won’t stop until they are happy because that PMD is responsible for the delivery as well. So we commit to what we are going to do, do it well, make people happy, rinse repeat. I personally love it compared to the “sales guy tossing it over the wall” model
Nope ..people always move around and when exiting do not burn relationships as consulting world is small.
Move on IBMer. Good luck
What are your concerns? How do you think you might be 'derailed' given that you're unhappy in your current situation?
Coach
Thank you. Your words really mean a lot to me and it is very good advice.
OP, how would you classify terrible pay and benefits?
What YOE and base salary? Health care premiums are pretty low from what I’ve seen also. 3 weeks PTO and 1 week personal choice, not bad
If SI means systems integration - it just depends on what you’re looking for and what you mean by derail. If you’re looking to stay hands on technical then maybe as you may not get on the projects you want or get to do as much stuff. If you just mean career over all (typically means management or salary) then no. You’ll hopefully be able to pair your hands on technical expertise with strategy/business experience. Killer combo.
