They sound insane
Sounds like a copout and that they don’t want to give you the actual reason. Probably promoted someone internal.
That said, even if that was the reason, it comes off icky and discriminatory against neurodiversity.
Somebody saw a Ted talk or read a brochure and now it’s their go-to litmus test for every encounter they have. Probably refuse to tip because the person at Starbucks didn’t look them in the eye.
They told me they were moving forward with other candidates that “didn’t have the piercing stare of a lunatic “.
I can’t stress enough how big of a bullet you dodged. Imagine what reason they’d invoke had you joined and they’d let you go…
Yes, exactly or even trying to work with them on an account, presenting a strategy and giving feedback on creative, etc. 🙄
Please share where this way - this sounds crazy
Odd place - so weirdness checks out
That’s nuts. Did you get weird vibes at the time?
A little bit, but nothing major. It was a bunch of one on ones with no panel interview, which I found odd since they supposedly made their decision "as a team."
I think the feedback they gave to me is most likely their own projection.
Omg. What kind of an Ahole would use that as a reason not to hire. Also, thanks for the hint. I will be sure to engage optically going forward.
It very well could be an excuse. But learn from it. Get a work friend have them interview you on camera in person. See if this is the case. Eye contact is super important and it can be perceived as lying if you don’t do it. It could easily be a nervous thing you do and not even notice. Ask a work friend to watch you in a zoom meeting or in person meeting. Take the feedback (listen or don’t listen) and find your perfect company. It’s extremely competitive out there.
Yeah, already did that. I got the eye contact feedback from their CCO after a 1st video call. Then when they flew me up there in person I was super cognizant to give good eye contact so that would not be an issue they would come back with. Then, that is what they repeated again after in person interviews as the reason to reject. But for them it's a deal breaker rather than something coachable. If it was a panel interview vs just one on ones with heads that employer bias would be checked. I don't want to work anywhere I'm expected to be 100% perfect and the executives are unwilling to coach me or upskill me so I may further develop so in that regard they showed their cards. Until this they had me believing they were as interested in my long term growth as what I immediately bring to the table.
Chief
Crazy. They’re not telling you the real reason.
