Ad industry is like, IDK, bartendering. As long as you are young and fast, you cost less, and you're competitive. But since the agency isn't able (as e.g. consultancies are) to sell your experience to the client, (their blame) they make you feel unuseful as you grow up. Aging in ad industry would be a consequence of a business model revolution, not an individual issue. You are a valuable 'resource'. You are worth more than your 30 years old colleagues. It's the agency being unable to sell this value to the client.
Nothing is wrong with you! Do not confuse who you are with what you do. Currently 62, I too crossed over from agency to in-house some years back when I realized where my experience would be of more value. I still have the passion but I no longer cared to play in the competitive, winner-take-all arena, spending nights and weekends when I’d rather invest in myself and quality of life. “Make it bigger?” Would that really make you happier? Or does the fact that you love what you do bring joy every day? I can say that I am grateful to be earning a living while doing something I never considered a “job”.
