After about a year here, the work culture has been very challenging. Most projects are short-term migrations with little upfront planning, but extremely strict delivery timelines.

This leads to constant pressure—workdays often stretch from 9:30 AM to 10 PM, with late nights till 2 AM at times. Last-minute tasks are common, and weekends or public holidays frequently become working days.

There’s very little work-life balance, with an expectation to be available all the time.

Was interviewing with a firm and soon after receiving an offer, learned of bad culture/toxic partners in the practice group from a couple of associates who recently lateraled from the firm. I turned the offer down. A partner that I clicked with while interviewing reached out asking me why I turned down the offer. Should I be honest and relay what I heard?

Any consulting companies with offices in the Bay Area feel they have a good in-person work culture? Being able to connect with colleagues matters a lot to me and I’m hoping to hear which companies have a strong and connected community out by SF! :)

Client recently offered me a job for an open req (industry eq SM). The work is flexible, the req is just to get me in the door but I decide what I want to work on (which I trust to be true). Much better culture, wlb, etc., but I’d be taking a 100k pay cut and be an IC with no team. Is it worth taking a step back in pay and responsibilities, or does it seem possible to get all in one?
