Is it just me or the average billable work in infrastructure transactions has blown off steam in the last couple of weeks?
If you exceed your billable hours Monday through Thursday and don’t have much work to do on Friday, is it okay to leave early?
I’m wondering whether and how other firms credit time spent by associates on business development for purposes of meeting the annual billable hours target. Is such time fully credited?
Im a third year associate and I’m frequently asked to give presentations (on new case law, legislation, ect.) during a weekly meeting for my section. There’s a first year associate and a law clerk in my section who are never asked to present. Should I push back on this? Would it look bad if I delegate some of the work to the others? I spend a lot of non billable time prepping for these presentations...it seems unfair that I’m the only one who has to do them.
Opinions and any information regarding billable hours and quality of work life at Stockwell, Harris, Woolverton & Helphrey...anything info appreciated!
[1/2] Hi all, I apologize because I know there have been posts on this bowl with similar subject matter recently, but I really need advice. I am at a risk of losing my job at the end of this month if I don’t make some changes to my work performance, specifically meeting my monthly billable hour requirement. My work and my work product is not an issue - my partner has repeatedly commended me on everything I produce, but my billable hours are seriously lacking.
How big of a reduction in billable hrs req would it be worth it to you to take a 40K pay cut?
I’m on an engagement with another associate. I’m fully booked (upwards of 60 hours a week every week of July), while the other associate hasn’t had billable hours for the last 3 months... engagement team has some changes they need to get pushed through to the wps, and I’m the better choice to push those updates (have more experience in wps and just better in general). But the other associate has availability and just gets paid to do nothing. Should I bring that up to someone? How and to whom?
What is it like to work as a real estate lawyer? I’ve done 4 years of plaintiffs personal injury, I’d like to try something new. Don’t want billable hours. Any thoughts? (Also other types of law suggestions are welcome)
I just started at a new firm 3 months ago. A big jump for me with 1,800 billable hours. I feel like I’m drowning trying to make the hours :( I am exhausted at the end of every day. Does it get easier?
SF Bay Area small firm associates with 3 years experience or less: what are you making in base salary? Annual bonus? What’s your billable hours requirement (if you have one)? How many hours do you work per week on average? Are you plaintiff or defense side? Trying to get a feel for what average compensation looks like and what factors into it.
Thinking of going on a sabbatical and using the time to dust off resume, get certs and find a new position.Anyone else recommend this? Currently being distracted by billable work that adds 0 to resume
Does anyone have a document with example narratives for billing a client?? I’m looking for something to adapt and that I could use frequently in an estate planning practice. On that, I’m completely new to billable hours and coming from an in house role, so I’m trying to do anything I can to help my end goal.
Has anyone noticed that busy season is changing into a marathon, not a sprint? I’m working close to 60 billable hours/week year round, and 70+ Feb - April. Is this a bigger trend?
Partners or whomever can help me understand about billing and hours. To keep things simple, let’s say you only have one staff to work 1,700 billable hours a year on a $60k salary and you have only one job that and the rate charged to the client is $300/hour and an projected hours budget of 1,700 hours. So ideally you would have revenue of $510k. If the staff takes less time partners make less money and if they take more time partners make more money while the staff keeps the same salary?
Best SPG property in NYC?

How do I get in contact with a headhunter? Or at least get on their radar. I’m at a boutique firm in Upstate New York with 2.5 years experience including litigation, medical depositions, appellate briefs and a pending brief before the Court of Appeals. I would prefer to move laterally into either a legal research position or litigation associate role in the NYC area. Appreciate any insight or feedback.
I am currently on maternity leave with an infant. Covid is making me very anxious about hiring a nanny or day care, when I need to return to work. How are you all, especially those with babies managing if both you and your spouse are working full time? Please share your experiences and suggestions
What are some small firms with entrepreneurial gusto giving MBB legit competition? And I don’t mean old school traditional shops charging $1,300 per hour per resource.
Going abroad with my boyfriend over New Years. United 1k and waitlisted with plus points on both legs right now. Any tips on how to get these to clear/upgrades confirmed?
Is there an comparison between big 4 titles ?
My son is entering Kindergarten and his (great but hamstrung) public school can only offer 60-85 minutes per day for remote learning, 3 days per MONTH in-school. Just not feasible for a working mom in this industry. So I met some parents, we hired a private teacher, and I’m rolling with a 4-family homeschool pod. I’m keeping my kid in public school, hoping the curriculums can align and not go crazy. Love and strength to all moms and dads and partners out there. It’s tough - but so are we!
Does pre-MBA T2 consulting experience help or hurt for M7 summer internship interviews at MBB? Have heard prior consulting is helpful but have also heard that MBB doesnt like “bad habits” formed at other consulting firms.
Sorry to hear this, CP+B’ers...have some friends there who are safe for now, is this the last of layoffs there (CO and LA)? http://www.adweek.com/agencyspy/cpb-cuts-3-percent-of-staff-in-boulder-and-l-a-as-part-of-larger-restructuring/143982

What color Apple Watch body? Can’t decide if I’d get sick of the gold or silver, or if the space gray stands out too much
Ok so, is it just me...or are the big 4 just hogwarts houses? Kpmg is clearly all hufflepuffs. PwC probably gryffindor but also ravenclaws. Deloitte for sure slytherin Ey...ravenclaw
