So here’s what I’ll say. A.T. Kearney hired me out of b-school and its a great firm with smart people. A few things convinced me to leave but most importantly most of the partners that pulled me into projects left. Some went to AlixPartners, others MBB or Big4. Second, The firm was struggling and paid a bonus worse than some of my managers bonuses and last German / Dutch leadership blew all the firm’s momentum. It’s mind blowing to think that A.T Kearney had more revenue in 2003 than 2018. It’s unhealthy and leads to limited opportunities to advance. I’ve heard the firm has gotten better now under American leadership, but it could just be fools gold. This is the best consulting market since the dot com bubble.
Bonus expectation is floored at around 25%. I would aim for a little lower in base, OP but would be curious to hear from other Alix fish because comp isn’t very transparent
I know someone who came in from another firm as an SVP. They said that Alix paid 15%-25% more on top of their prior firm to get them to leave. This person had an Ivy MBA and alluded to their base being on the higher end of 180k-210k. That said, I’m not sure where your experience will put you in that range. Also your first year bonus will likely be capped at 25%.
ATK1, I’m ex-ATK but came over as a principal(our director) level and the bonus is significantly better here. My total comp was about 30% higher.
As far as the experience, it’s been the best years of my career. AlixPartners is consulting without a lot of the bullshit of consulting. If you’re ex-ATK you’ll fit in well here. In the Operations and procurement area, virtually all the MDs are ex-ATK.
AP1- did the people with 0% get fired? Seriously what happened there?
SVP I’ve heard ranges from $180-230. Bonus for good performance in the 25-50% range, but generally stays close what they offer as “target bonus”. The “no cap on bonus” is BS, there may be no actual cap, but in experience no one at the SVP level is getting 2-3x their target. Generally a good work environment and get to work with some very senior teams
No MBA but background in IB and industry (retail).
Is $200K base within reason?
What is bonus like for SVP at AP? Sorry OP - don’t mean to hijack the conversation.
I think 200k is within reason. Perhaps 180-190k
AP2, is capping at 25% due to the partial year worked(assuming you don’t start in October)?
AP3 - why did you leave ATK for AP? And how has your experience been so far? Would love to hear your thoughts. I am keen on learning about the EI practice.
I can't speak to salary, but bonuses are minimum 25%. I've heard some as high as 50% due to lower base and high performance.
AP4 so would you say generally bonus band in somewhere in the 25%-50% range pending performance and base level?
OP, yes. I’ve heard of people getting no bonus either, so maybe adjust to 0-50% for the total range
