Hello RSM coworkers! I am thrilled to be moving to RSM into a Scheduler roll. I just found out yesterday and want to be as prepared as possible in the next steps.
So here are my questions.
How long does the background study take? I'm guessing admin staff have a study that is faster and less complicated than someone in Tax ect.
When training at home what did you need that wasn't supplied by RSM? My home office is well stocked but I want to be as prepared as possible.
Thanks in advance!

You shouldn’t have to be filing for 3 states (DC, VA & MD) if you live & work in the DMV area because they have tax reciprocity with each other.
Yeah you definitely want to get this sorted out because DC’s income tax rate is higher than VAs (I believe). Idk about MDs but I wouldn’t be surprised if you’re paying an incorrect amount of taxes. Good luck!

T&E is entered where you do the work. If you're WFH, then wherever your home is is where you enter your hours. Likewise for firm office or client site.
Thanks, all. I appreciate the dialogue. And yes KPMG 1, I do mean home office as in company location. Essentially, what I’m getting at here is tax filings. This location (home office (DC), my home (MD), and client site(VA)) has created more confusion come tax time than any other. I get the inference of charging every hour to the “location where you planted your existential ass when you did work,” but I wrestle with that argument come April 15th every year (non-CoVID of course) when I’m filing for 3+ states that taxed the work.
Yeah doesn’t really matter for DMV. I live in MD and my last project was in MD but my timesheet defaulted to VA because that’s where our Corp office is. Never changed it and was told that was fine. Never had any issues. Only filed in MD
How is your home office not where you live...? Do you mean assigned office?
We submit time where you work. If you do work in Virginia, submit time in VA. If you are WFH in DC submit DC time.
This is how ours works too. Even before COVID, if I wfh for a weekend day or something I would submit time from my home location.
I think he’s confused as to definition of “home office” e.g. if he’s KPMG, client is in DC, and lives in MD then his “home office” (Tyson’s) is VA, client site DC, then wfh is MD.
Forgot to include—OP, You should align your timesheet with your firm policy, not what we say.
